I have had his Jazz sitting on my shelves, unopened, for 5 years or so!

But I'd like to see a Country Story, and hope I will like it better than Scorcese's Blues.

Gives him plenty of time to screw up the story of another genre of music...

Too much religious undertones, too much Nu Country, wont know music was created outside Nashville, will they interview Wynton Marsalis or all 4?

Ken Burns takes on country music? What could possibly go wrong?
Can't wait for his "fair & balanced" NASCAR doc to be announced.

    Hmm..

Quite a lot of bashing - is this the "Ken Burns Effect" I keep hearing about?? ☺️

    Personally, I love his work.

So this will cover the story up through the first Hank Williams or so I guess.

You probably shouldn't devise a 'drinking game' triggered by the number of mentions of "cultural appropriation".

Nor should you devise a drinking game triggered by the number of dismissive posts you make about a doc no one even has seen yet.

  15. It'll come down to which advisors he chooses. He chose poorly for Jazz and got an unbalanced view of jazz music.

That's as far as it needs to go, IMO.

I've seen all of his other productions so I'm familiar Ken's usual modus operandi.
Same way I know that whatever Roger McGuinn does probably involves a
Rickenbacker 12-string and nasal vocals. Betcha that catch phrase turns up in the
country music doc since it has a lot of cultural buzz right now with the NPR crowd.

Until this comes out I am going to listen to some old music and put a bunch of old album covers and promo photos on my dining room table and slowly shift my gaze among them

I'll watch it. Won't bother with any of the "reviews" that will be posted here; the "pre-reviews" are pretty tacky.

Don't know what the knock about Burns is. Everything I've seen by him I thought was pretty darn good. As far as accurately portraying the subject matter? I'm not an expert on jazz but I thought it was pretty faithful. Now, I am an expert on baseball (IMNSHO), and I thought that series was outstanding.

Apparently, people would rather see the various fields of human endeavor completely ignored rather than imperfectly portrayed.

His overview of Jazz was pretty good if you believe that the evolution of Jazz ended over 50 years ago and the only worthwhile stuff done since then have been attempts to emulate earlier jazz. I look forward to a history of Rock that ends with Elvis going into the Army and Buddy Holly boarding a plane.

Yes, we should all watch those other histories of jazz crowding the popular culture . . . oh, wait . . .

But didn't he do that series 20 years ago? And I think it would be fair to say that the hey day of jazz music DID end in the mid 60's to early 70's. But, like I said, I really don't know much about the genre.

If it had ended 40 years ago there would be less of an issue. It really adopted the Jazz is what Wynto says it is approach, and excluded pretty much anything with an electric guitar, bass or keyboard.
