Daryl's House has generated so much great music it's sick. I've spent some real quality time just grazing instances where the band covered the same song over different episodes. Here's Booker T Jones on the Hammond, Mayer Hawthorne on lead for "I Can't Go For That": Contrast with the same one with Chromeo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOE1-2Fza5Q
I've never heard the Mayer Hawthorne version, but I've listened to the Chromeo performance countless times. So good!
When i first saw this i thought Imani Coppola looked ready to conque the world. Maybe she will one day.
I saw the Chupacabra tour in a small venue in the UK. She was GREAT. She's gone on to make more albums but none as accessible as this one. Lyrically she was quite a way ahead of the game in terms of feminism. Outstanding.
Devo on SNL,1978 and a little Satisfaction.I remember watching it live that night and thinking "what in the hell is this" and i loved it
Paul Westerberg, "Knockin' on Mine" and "Can't Hardly Wait", both killer live cuts! paul westerberg knockin on mine and can't hardly wait live - video Dailymotion
Not a big fan of Gin Blossoms, but when they did “Hey Jealousy” on Letterman it was absolutely certain it would be a hit:
Courtney Barnett and Hoodoo Gurus frontman Dave Faulkner doing a cracking cover on the Rockwiz show. I just love the energy in this.
And seeing as there’s a bit of love for Iggy Pop, here’s a clip of an interview and studio performance from Iggy on Countdown which Australians would remember. Note the typical studio audience was mainly young teenage girls. ‘Don’t worry about Iggy, he’s ok’ (host, Molly)
Deep Purple live with Hugh Hefner, dancing bunnies and playmates,on Playboy After Dark 1968..now that's thrilling!
That is awesome! Brian Jones had the sharpest wit on that show at least. The young Mick Jagger had charisma but not the moves - before he’d seen James Brown. Keith looking most unlike his familiar on stage persona. Bill Wyman actually moving on stage. And Charlie being Charlie. Great stuff.
Yes the Stones of 1964,were sure a much different band than what they would become in 5 short years.I did love the Brian Jones era so much though.
Los Lobos - "La Bamba" What starts out as a typical, by-the-numbers Grammy performance, breaks into an extended guitar break by Caesar Rosas...the smile on David Hidalgo's face at 1:58 says it all...
Just worked my way through all 11 pages of this thread. Some amazing performances I remember seeing, some I haven't (some bands I need to investigate more of) but this here, well, I can't imagine what it must have been like in that studio witnessing this. An absolute master at work. Just beautiful.
