Listening to it at the moment and it sounds great with very quiet red vinyl.

    Deadwax: BMGCAT 436 DLP 1 A1 B294104-01 A1 ALCHEMY (a bit hard to read)

It states inside the gatefold: Mastering & cutting: Phil Kinrade at Alchemy Mastering

Are all of the songs now true stereo or true mono?

The records are stereo. Whether or not it's "true" stereo, I just listened to one side through speakers and can't answer at the moment. I'll listen later thru my headphones and let you know.

I'm listening and dont think it sounds anywhere near as good as the recent pressings of VGPS and Arthur

This sounds really good to me. The best I've heard some of these songs sound. More bottom end on this release. Waterloo Sunset sounds superb.
140 gram bright red vinyl. I was hoping for a nice thick tip-on jacket. But, no. All original artwork and famous Mendelsohn essay.
    I'm happy with the purchase.

Should have also mentioned...faux orange Reprise labels on the LPs. That was a kinda nice touch.

    Correct from my POV.

It's a good comp and is worthy of release but reminds me still of "We Sold Our Soul To Rock and Roll" Black Sabbath, which also was released on red vinyl and used 4th generation dubs to digital of US tapes like they always did. That and this compilation will not stand as a better source, but just a nifty trip of memories.

I give it a 7.5/10. Sound is decent, but not super. Paper sleeves, Reprise-mock labels and mixed feelings.

Can anyone confirm the mixes, or does it match up to the original pressing?

All stereo even King Kong? I didn't think a stereo mix existed! Does it have the rare stereo version of Dead End Street that only appeared on that recent Best of?

No, there is mono where it usually is.

I got one. More RSD nonsense.

This album has "never" sounded very good this release continues the sad tradition of sub standard sonics. This version is a lifeless slog.

Of course, Musically, it's an absolute gem. Sometimes it's hard being an audiophile Kinks fan. Sigh...

But I'm sure I'll have no problem selling this dud though!

Thus far I've only heard one Kinks compilation with great sonics, and that's Kevin Grays wonderful

  17. Just enjoy the music like we did in 1970 when none of us were audiophiles. Fantastic stuff. Sometimes this audiophile expectation on everything sort of ruins it for some folks...

agreed... I'm not loving this reish Kinks Kronikles like I do KG's Best of 64-70... probably won't sell it, but doubt I'll spin it all that much... slogged through two sides yesterday and have yet to finish sides 3 & 4...

It sounds okay to me. I wasn't disappointed with the sound at all and it's certainly not "lifeless slog" on my setup. It's a great compilation that flows musically.

I wouldn't term any of the Kinks early recordings as being "audiophile like", including the stuff that was mastered by Kevin Gray. Seems like expectations are on the high side for this reissue.

I relented and got one from Plaid Room. It’s a sickness. God save the Kinks
