Perhaps, but you couldn't even come close to making the box for $40 AUD. With 11 discs it's less than $4 per disc before you even consider the box, book and booklet, memorabilia and shipping to Australia. So Amazon must be losing quite a bit on those sets they sold us. Amazon UK has it for £109, which is about $190.

I have the 1998 Mono/Stereo cd with bonus tracks but on impulse bought the new 2cd hardcover set on friday.
I have not compared it to the 98' yet but the 18' Stereo (yet to play the Mono) sounds wide and detailed with great clarity and separation.
The vocals seem to benefit most though this clarity can reveal a dryness to for example the acoustic guitars though it is still very enjoyable.
What do people think of the new Stereo, Mono & bonus cuts?
Should i have bought the 6 disc set & was there a 3rd option of purchase other than the 2 cd?

People are very happy with the remixes on disc 3 and 5 of the box, and the BBC sessions also sound better than previously. There is a dedicated and long with lots of details: The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society - 50th Anniversary Super Deluxe Now Confirmed! Work backwards!

I think the whole second half of the BBC disc is previously unreleased!

Slight correction, there are 11 unreleased tracks on the BBC disc, including a 1969 interview.

Yes, I was surprised how much radio promotion they did for the album - it's a bit strange that it still didn't chart in the UK!
If you wait for a 20% off day at JBHiFi it's $185. Not sure what it currently is on Amazon, remembering that we can now order from Amazon UK and US again.

I have heard no advertising but was amazed that there is apparently loads more BBC stuff circa 68' in addition to the Kinks BBC 2cd set.
I went to JB for 20% off on Friday for the Hendrix set and bought the Kinks 2cd set for $16.
$185 is a vintage vinyl purchase for me or a box i have to have.

Ok. Some observations on the 2 CD version.
    1. Difficult packaging made glue marks on disc two.
    2. Decent article in booklet.
    3. Why is it on ABKCO?!?
    4. They say only Village Green and Animal Farm are the only two songs on the album with real strings. However, I always thought Animal Farm’s strings were from a Mellotron (it’s mixed low and it has that Mellotron texture but I could be wrong).

    Anyone ?

I bought the 2cd set also and noted it came in a hard cover or thin card stock.
    Which did you buy?
I had no issue with the hardcover which cost me less than $12USD.
As for sound iam still comparing it to my 1998 mono/stereo edition.

Amazon US prices. The deluxe edition is dropping by the day, how low will it go?

  18. Mmmm on ABKCO? That's kind of weird unless Klein gained the rights to the U.S.

Apparently way too many, this box set has recently gone into overflow or deep discount territory.

  24. I'd rather a label manufacture a few too many than the mad scramble created when box sets go out of print within months of release.

  25. Totally. it thought it was so frustrating for those who couldn't at first get The Beatles in Mono and had to pay mad prices.

On a side note, have you heard anything about Unbreakable receiving a 4K transfer?
