A curious thing about the Lick It Up videos is Gene's still very much in demon mode as he hams it up for the camera, the glares and all that. He quit pretending for Animalize.

And props to KISS for doing a metal/rap hybrid three years before I'm The Man and two years before Walk This Way

He was the first to admit that he was lost on stage when the demon makeup/costumes came off. He was far more comfortable by the time he looked like this :D.

Dear oh dear oh dear. :sigh: I'm not sure we can call that their no-makeup era.

Not really. He was just in makeup on stage about three months previously. He hadn't had time to find a new way of acting on stage or in front of a camera.

Another killer song that I used to be obsessed with. I don’t know how much of it was Gene rather than the co-writers, but it was my favourite track on the album for some time.

And he didn't really didn't find a good new way of acting onstage until Revenge. HITS tour was a start (under the direction of manager Larry Mazer, who wisely advised him to stop sticking his tongue out), but he didn't get there until he grew the mustache and goatee and had killer new songs to fit his persona like "Unholy".

As ridiculous as he (and the rest of the band, frankly) looked during the Asylum period, I think his Animalize look was the worst, because of that crappy wig he wore. And that's when he started to really act more sexual and flamboyant onstage, which he unfortunately has continued to do since 1996. An armor-clad old man wearing clown makeup doesn't look good swiveling his hips whilst wagging his tongue.

Like most eighties songs, Gene largely took the song and changed it just enough to get a credit. That’s lame, but it doesn’t change what I think what I think of the song itself.

For the longest time, I thought “Naked City” was another example. And it was still my favorite track on Unmasked.

Same here. I’ll take great songs that Gene didn’t write any day over the dismal songs he churned out later on in the ‘80s by himself.

There ain't a dang thing on Creatures that could qualify as filler.

Ehhhhh, I’d agree with “Danger” being filler, albeit killer filler.

I’d say add “King”, “Secretly Cruel”, and “Betrayed”. Hell, “Little Caesar” could even work.

We must part ways here. It only gets worse from here on out. Hot In the Shade damn near killed me. Maybe around Carnival of Souls I could (briefly) get interested again.
