I’m switching “I Love It Loud” out for “Heaven’s On Fire”.

I’m curious - which does everyone think is worse? Hot in the Shade or Crazy Nights?

Mediocrity vs cheesiness...I'll vote for Hot in the Shade being worse since it's almost 15 mins longer.

Wow, that is a hard one, because both are pretty bad.
On one hand, HITS is longer, there’s so much more mediocrity to sit through, and you’ve got “Read My Body”, “Cadillac Dreams”, “Silver Spoon”, “Love’s A Slap In The Face”.

Crazy Nights, you have KISS doing bad AOR with all the glossy keyboards and Paul straining his voice to the point where it sounds like someone is crushing his nuts. And then you have “Bang Bang You”, “Turn On The Night”, “My Way”. Dude, if “No No No” is my second favorite track on an album, you know it sucks.

I’ll just count up songs I like on either record.
CN-“Thief In The Night” is decent, parts of “No No No”

HITS-“Rise To It” is okay, “Betrayed” is not bad, “Forever” is good if I’m in the right mood, and I like “Little Caesar”.

I guess I’ll go with HITS by default.

I just stumbled onto this thread and I was surprised at what was left. I have a vastly different opinion on these albums than the rest of SHTV apparently.

Haha I agree almost 100% with everything you just said. The only slight differences would be that I have no tolerance whatsoever for Forever, and Turn on the Night grew on me after seeing the Kulick brothers do it on the cruise. I can’t remember the last time I sat down and listened to either of those albums from start to finish. Next round will be fun for us, then!

They are both top five (or thereabouts, depending on the day) KISS albums for me. I think they do pop-rock better than metal. :)

I'm going to need a major memory refresh for the next 3 pack, my axe will be razor sharp because there's a lot of **** on those records.

I think Crazy Nights is the weaker of the two.

I have a lot of time for Hot In The Shade. I seriously dislike Hide Your Heart but I really like the rest, and I actually love Rise To It, Silver Spoon and a few others. I hear Hot In The Shade as having one foot in the 80s and another on the road to Revenge.

HITS for me. I do like songs on it but there is just too much filler on it almost as if they just wanted to fill up a CD as much as they could. I think I like Crazy Nights more than most people do though.

    I agree.

Thet contain many four star songs and just as many five star ones. :)

I’ll admit this is a song I used to hate, but I’ll admit, I’ve warmed up to it over time. It’s still not my favorite by any means, but for a catchy 80s rock tune, it’s not half bad. A little too simplistic (even for KISS), but not bad.

Still don’t really like it being the title track though.

A favourite to this day. I always turn up the volume when it comes on. The verses are perfection.

Easily the best Kiss music video also. I wonder if that song would’ve been successful as a comeback single rather than flopping if they released it in ‘80 or ‘81 and Unmasked and/or The Elder never happened.

Are you sure it tops the masterpiece that is the video for Who Wants To Be Lonely?

Hahaha I think the Tears are Falling video is even funnier, purely because I can’t even tell what the set that they’re performing in front of in that one is supposed to be.

I can see that. “Dynasty didn’t do much for you? Well...

The "(You Make Me) Rock Hard" video is the most cringeworthy. Paul not even playing a guitar, swinging from a trapeze, wearing a chainmail shirt and white skinny jeans.
