Every line-up has its charms, I reckon and the original is always going to be the most iconic but personally, given my love for mid to late Eighties KISS, I'm going to go for Gene, Paul, Eric & Bruce.

Yeah all those leads were Mr. Bob Kulick. I love all four of those tracks.

I feel like no one really has asked Ace the following:
"Paul and Gene tried multiple times to get you back in the band while they were recording the Killers and Creatures tracks. Did you ever hear what they working on as it was the heavier direction you asking for? Wouldn't have this interested you to be involved in the sessions?"
I know Ace was on a bender at the time and didn't remember Paul driving out to CT to meet up with Ace to plead with him to rejoin but that Creatures material was pretty awesome. You think it would've inspired him to give it a try.

Paul, Gene, Vinnie & Eric Carr. But I do love Ace too.

Ohh maybe I'll add my lineup as Paul Gene Eric Ace with Vinnie as a dedicated songwriter.

Yes, Vinnie is so good at writing songs. His writing suits Kiss so well. His work and on Chreatures and Lick It Up is stellar.

What a cool photo! Never saw it before. If THIS lineup could have been sustained, I imagine it could have done great things.

So very true. I wish they would have recorded "Alive III" while Vinnie was in the band.

I'm not a Vinnie fan but to be fair to him that's Gene and Paul's version. I can well imagine there being more to that contract than they let on.. Like wanting him to give up his publishing for example.

I would also go with the Simmons/Stanley/Frehley/Carr line-up. I don't think Eric's full potential was ever realized during his tenure in KISS.

There's a great boot of a date in Nashville. You can find it on the dark web to download or just listen here.

That one is great, but I really wish there would have been an official release! Love how they sound back then.

Bingo  - as a writing musician that's in a band that would be a non starter in my opinion. You want me to write songs/music and I don't get a cut?

Ace has never been much of a writer, bless him. Vinnie though had so much potential which has only been partially realized, I reckon. His work on his two KISS albums & the first Invasion record is really quite special.

Ace didn't write a ton but he did write all those song within a song guitar solos.

I think Ace is a great writer myself!

I mean, sure, he isn't Paul or Gene in terms of writing range or variety, but anyone who can write memorable hooks including songs like Cold Gin, Parasite, Getaway, Shock Me, Rocket Ride, or virtually all the songs on his solo album, gets a thumbs up from me! :righton:
