It was surprisingly blah. Interesting premise and could've gone a mix of intriguing ways, but just kinda sat there and never fulfilled its potential.
I haven't been able to watch it yet but I'm looking forward to. Shyamalan's films usually include interesting concepts and scenes, so they're always worth checking out.
Went to see this today and enjoyed it. Not the best Shyamalan movie but he did a good job. Bautista was great and Groff was excellent as he always is. This was filmed in the woods near my high school, the woods me and my friends hung out in a lot. So that’s neat. The diner they go to at the end is a dairy bar I’ve driven past a billion times (and got ice cream at once)
Haven't seen it since the DVD days, so I don't remember it well enough to discuss cinematography or visuals. Just thought it was a snoozer. Synopsis from my review: "It promises thrills it fails to deliver, and it lacks the depth to allow it to prosper as a drama. The twists in its third act aren’t enough to redeem this slow-paced film."
The plot was fine, and I saw the twist coming a mile away, but it didn’t bother me. The visuals and the acting carried it for me
‘Amazing that The Village never came out in Blu-ray. We need a 4K box set of M Night Shyamalan movies (at least the early ones).
Yeah, the absence of a "Village" BD does remain a surprise. I think it's the sole DVD-only MNS movie, isn't it? Given Disney owns it - I guess - I doubt we'll ever get another disc-based release. Disney has really cut down on catalog releases.
MNS really stunk for a while there - "Happening" was even worse than "Lady"! I never saw "Airbender" or "After Earth". Didn't like "Visit" or "Split", though those made good commercial comebacks for him. I did like "Glass" at least!
‘yeah that’s one I have no desire to revisit. Would rather watch The Happening anytime compared to that one.
Part of me wants to believe that The Happening was purposely bad and campy. When I was watching it, I tried to convince myself that he meant to do it
It is beautiful. It is well acted with tons of star power. And it is a compelling love story: it was marketed wrongly as a monster movie: It is a gothic romance, and the real monsters are the adults in the village. We love it.
Watched Knock at the Cabin last night. Sans twist, there simply is no point. I guess it's better than "Old", which was really really poor. But man, there's no reason to watch this one.
