'Thirst' is a bit of an off the wall vampire movie, I enjoyed it a lot. I saw one titled 'Lies' that was quite difficult to watch, but very intense and says a lot.
Can you provide more specifics about Lies like what year it was made, director etc? Too many by that title on IMDB. Thanks. I like "Thirst." The vampire is played by Song Kang-ho, star of "Parasite."
Sure, here's Wiki on it: Lies (1999 film) - Wikipedia I should also have mentioned that this film is not for the squeamish, as the subject matter and some depictions can be tough to watch.
I really liked thirst. In addition to the cool vampire stuff, there are some hilariously dark humor scene and for a move with no nudity ( that I remember) it gets very, very steamy. Also, all the acting is very good. I have it inline for a rewatch very soon.
The "sequel" to "Train To Busan" sounds like it has potential: Director Yeon Sang-ho's follow-up to the hit zombie action flick is described as a "thought-provoking post-apocalyptic story about people fighting to escape land ruined by disaster." Sounds even more intriguing then the original movie. Berlin: Well Go USA Takes South Korea's 'Train to Busan' Sequel for North America
Last night I watched Bong Joon-ho's "Okja" on Netflix. I was somewhat sceptic, since it looked like a well-known formula: nice kid has to save its cute pet-monster from evil greedy adults. And that's exactly what the movie was about. But I still enjoyed it quite a bit. Probably because it was much darker than expected and obviously not aimed at a kid audience (among other things, the F-word was used constantly). Spoiler: Ending I was also surprised that it had only a very minor happy ending. Sure, Mija rescues Okja (and a little piglet as well), but nothing else changes. All the other giant pigs get slaughtered, the evil corporation gets away with everything and the animal activist goes to jail (who was a dubious character anyway). Even the post credit scene doesn't really change any of this in a clear way. Kinda bold for a movie like this.
The Korean show Kingdom season 2 will be released this Friday, 3/13, on Netflix. It's a historical period piece … with zombies. I know, I know, I thought the same thing but it's really good. Much better than my description. Recommended if you enjoy Korean cinema. The first season was great.
I really liked it - especially it's unique blend of creature horror, goofy comedy, and black comedy. Very enjoyable.
That was a great movie. A bit of a long set up at the beginning for a great payoff in the last half. And bonus points for starring Song Kang-ho. Love that guy, amazing actor.
I think Song Kang-ho is one of the finest actors working right now. I've seen SO MANY movies with him in it. And he always kills it.
I'm ending my netflix dvd service soon, so thanks to this thread I've moved all my Korean films up to the top of the queue. For, me the DVD service works better and is cheaper - with a MUCH better selection, it's just a bit of an unnecessary expense anymore. Anyway, I had more in there than I remembered: the handmaiden secret sunshine train to busan the housemaid the wailing
Added "I saw the devil." This may sound nuts, but I can't remember if I have seen this and I still can't remember even after watching the trailer.
Wow, that is one crazy movie. I'd say you probably didn't see it yet because there is some stuff in there that will be burned into your brain. Lol. It's a rough go but a GREAT movie. And it has Min-sik Choi - Oldboy himself. Another great Korean actor. You have quite the film festival lined up!
Was this remade sometime/somewhere? Cause when I read the description, I keep thinking "wait a minute . . . I've seen this"
Not that I'm aware of. I'm sure Hollywood will remake it and ruin it sometime though. Sorta like they did with Oldboy. Well, maybe not, now that I really thing about it. It's really over the top crazy. Another Korean gem!
