Been meaning to buy that one for years. Thanks for the reminder.

"Autopsy" desperately needs to be reissued.

Why not? There's a lot less punk in LA during the '83 - '87 years so I had to go with what was starting to happen in '81 - '82. More Paisley Underground, new wave, roots rock, etc. But most of the major bands I had been highlighting were still making music, albeit at a lesser rate than before. Same rule about no more than 4 tracks to an LP applies (but when I get to a certain classic double LP, I used eight songs of course). As the years went on, I found my interest in this stuff began to wane - and I had to actively search for stuff that was released in a given year - with the last two years ('86 and '87) being particularly bereft. Anyway, I'll start with the last five tracks I listed earlier, as they're from 1983.

Thank you. It may be a shorter list but there is still some great stuff on there!

  4. Well, if we're into the mid-'80s we can slot this dude in - he was on the LA scene and played with many of the above acts, including X, Los Lobos, and the Blasters...

LA punk was dying in those years. A big theme of the books is how the Orange County bands came along in the early '80s and brought violence to the scene. Many women stopped going to shows because of it, etc. By 1987 the Strip was well into the Hair-Metal days which Penelope Spheeris chronicled in her second Decline movie.

Anything from 1st two fIREHOSE albums in '86 and '87 seems to be absent.

Oh hell yeah, thanks! Just added "Brave Captain" and "Choose Any Memory" from Ragin' Full On and "Sometimes," "Honey, Please," and "For the Singer of REM" from the even better If'n.

Haven't thought of these guys in decades.

Memory lane right there. Funny, all the punk I listened to growing up was from LA but I didn't know it at the time. Decades later, one of the early streaming services had Classic Punk West Coast and Classic Punk East Coast stations. I was shocked how much I had been listening to west coast back in the day.

I love X. I'll have to grab that book.

Originally, yeah. But not when they recorded that song. The 45 even has a 213 area code on the label.
