Can anybody post a list of 'current' record stores in Los Angeles, I have seen a directory of record stores in LA, but from reading posts on this website, I would say a lot of them don't exist anymore.

I believe these are all still around:

    Amoeba Music (Hollywood)
    Atomic Records (Burbank)
    Canterbury Records (Pasadena)
    CD Trader (Tarzana)
    Freakbeat Records (Sherman Oaks)
    Penny Lane (Pasadena)
    Poo-Bah Records (Pasadena)
    Record Surplus (West LA)
    Rockaway Records (Silver Lake)
Second Spin (Sherman Oaks, Santa Monica)
    Soundsations (near LAX)
Virgin Megastore (two stores in Hollywood)

What am I forgetting? Did any of these close while I wasn't looking? Are there any still on Melrose?

Does anyone know if Heavy Rotation is still open on Ventura Blvd. near Laurel Canyon Blvd? I would make a cd run that included Arons, Ameoba, Heavy Rotation, Second Spin (in Sherman Oaks), and CD Trader.

On my last visit it seemed the place was moving away from records, towards musical instruments and memorabilia.

There are a few other "secret spots" that require a bit of digging, which I'd be happy to take any visitors to. I've listed some of the better spots in Southern California though:

    Noise Noise Noise
    1505 Mesa Verde Dr. E., Ste. A
    Costa Mesa, California 92626
    Phone: (714) 556-1507
    Listening Stations: Yes

Decent prices and although the store isn't very large, they've typically had at least a few gems every time I've gone in.

    ----------------

    Amoeba Music
    6400 Sunset Blvd.
    Hollywood, California 90028
    Phone: (323) 245-6400
    Listening Stations: No

This is a MEGA store for vinyl junkies. They have every style of music under the sun here. It's not uncommon to get into trouble with the miss's after a visit here.

    ----------------

    Vinyl Fetish
    1614 Cahuenga Boulevard
    Hollywood, California 90028
    Phone: (323) 957-2290
    Listening Stations Yes

The selection seems to be getting thinner and thinner here as time goes by. It seems like a lot of the smaller record stores simply have too much trouble competing with Amoeba. Still, it's definitely worth stopping by for a dig; besides, it's right down the street from Amoeba.

    Music Revolution in Whittier
    11133 E. Washington Blvd.
    Whittier, CA 90606
    (562) 692 0281

    Music Revolution in Anaheim
    52 E. Orangethorpe Ave.
    Anaheim, CA 92801
    (714) 447-9288
    *(Bring your own Stylus)

    Discount Records (Used)
    8682 Beach Blvd.
    Buena Park, CA 90620
    (714) 821-1985
Don't know if the Discount Records is still open, haven't been in a long while.

    Oh man...

Rockaway was my neighborhood store back in the 80s...i could walk over there in less than a half-hour. Good to see they're going strong, along with Poo-bah, once an essential stop for imports...

..but too many of my old haunts are gone: Aaron's, Rhino, Tower on Sunset and several places whose names I can't even recall anymore it's been so long...

...the place on Fairfax that specialized in cut-outs and trade-ins...

...and that place deep south on La Cienega where the owner piled the cut-outs in mailer boxes and you had to root thru em....

...and that joint near the Beverly Center, owned by a French guy who charged outrageous prices for imports ($100 apiece for the first two Beatles Ultra-Rare Trax), so you ended up window shopping and walking out empty-handed...

    ...sorry, Ive got Diskheimers....

Really? That's a shame. They've always had a lot of memorabilia and such, though.

What about that one on Harbor Blvd. in Costa Mesa near Newport Blvd? I've forgotten the name. A bit out of the way, but I always find something interesting at an ok price.

I like this little store... a friendly owner, good collectables on the walls, clean and organized, nothing not to like. Prices are fair too.:righton:

Counterpoint Books and Records (on Franklin near Bronson) is still open. Parking sucks but worth a visit.

There's a tiny store in Santa Monica on Pico Blvd near the ocean between 4th Street and Main Street. I think it's called Benway (it used to be in Venice)
