Damn. Starting reading thread and was hoping it wasnt true. Just saw him about 15 feet tall on a theater screen showing Woodstock last week. Love that man's bass playing. Huge influence on me. That solo of his on Fried Hockey Boogie is the absolute s**t. Hope he's jamming with the Blind Owl, Bear and the Sunflower right now.

    Double damn.

First thing I wanted to check today... but was still hoping. He sure moved around on that Woodstock stage! He brought a lot of joy and was a real straight shooter where it counted... a lot of people respected him greatly.

"Now in order to have a good boogie you gotta have a bottom. And on that bottom we got Mr. Larry Taylor, alias The Mole." I think everyone should CRANK that bass solo of his in "Fried Hockey Boogie" in honor of The Mole.

Thank you for the proper remembrance Fats. The Mole was always a favorite. Always first and last about the music.

It's a VERY impressive resume. I have a great deal of those albums from the late 70's through to the end. I'm sure there are a number of albums missing from the lost since 2011.
On many of those albums the drummer was Richard Innes who also died a few years back. A great album collection could be assembled based on their participation. Either seperate or together.

He was far far more than just the bass player in Canned Heat. Something that will have been missed by most SHMF ers.

  19. Saw him with John Mayall in 1970 or 1971, touring the USA Union band. They didn't have a drummer. With Taylor on bass, they didn't really need one.

This is true. He had a very percussive attack with his fingers on the strings. Not slapping, just strong fingers with a hell of a thump

How weird and sad to see this thread while listening to the Canned Heat album "Hallelujah" on You Tube.
The other night I played Tom Wait's "Rain Dogs" album and on Sunday I saw the Canned Heat performance in the Woodstock movie which was on TV in the afternoon.

What a strange set of coincidences.

RIP to a great bass player.[IMG]

You said it brother. I'm listening to Hallelujah right now. What a great album.
And after being into Canned Heat for years, then being turned onto Tom Waits much later, imagine my surprise at seeing Larry's name on his albums' musician credits.
What a cool guy, and what a player. He definitely had an influence on the way i play bass. (Or the way I wished i could play bass
