...Either the Damned or Graham Parker and the Rumour, both at the Catalyst club here in SC. (The Damned played there again quite recently, but this was years back. ) Details later on.
Saw Kim Simmons and Savoy Brown tonight at the Bull Run tavern in Shirley, MA . They played for 2 hours with a nice mix of songs off their last album and from the bands golden 1967-72 era. Simmons is still an amazing fluid guitar player at 71 years of age. He plays with real joy and passion and told great stories between songs. He mentioned the band is in the studio recording a new album. Great inexpensive music experience if he plays in your town.
Matt Maher & Band at a local church here. I'll admit that I had to be dragged there, but it was a pretty rockin' show for a CCM group and Matt got into some unexpected Bo Diddley grooves on his old Gretch White Falcon. There were probably about 1,200 folks packed in there too...
Just got back from Bryan Adams. First time I've seen him. I enjoyed it but I don't think I'd go see him again. Perhaps it was just me, but I found the sound of Bryan and his band rather thin and anemic. Maybe I've just seen Bruce and the E Streeters too many times. The girls around me seemed to enjoy the concert, though. Best song he did all night was `I Fought The Law'.
Last Friday I saw Robby Krieger of the Doors live. Great show! Still kicking it even in his late 70s! I had just gotten my tax refund, before which I didn't even know if I was able to go. But since I did, I got the ticket a half hour before the show. But before that, I took a bit of a gamble (there wasn't TOO big a window between getting out of work and the show) and quickly swung by a couple of record shops for a Doors album... I had The Soft Parade at home, but careless me left it on the kitchen table before going to work. But I figured 'hey, good excuse to buy another Doors vinyl!' but the only one I found was a somewhat worn Strange Days for $20. I kind of figured it wouldn't sound too great and unfortunately I was right, definitely a repressing from the early '70s. But at least the cover art was in good shape. They had copies of the first album for $40 and $50 but that was a bit lofty for me, especially being short on time before the show and the definite possibility of not getting it signed. The show went on and I made it just in time, and luckily, I managed to get it autographed by the man himself after the show. Had I not gotten it, I probably would've returned the album after finding out it wasn't too good sounding, but now it's getting framed and hung in the man cave
I saw a really great all-girls Beatles tribute band at a local venue tonight! They were excellent and it was tons of fun
KISS at the L.A. Forum. Don’t bother listening to the professional complainers (KISS “fans”) who didn’t see them on this tour. They were great.
Ska Face. 10 piece ska tribute band doing "40 Years of Two Tone" last night at The Grand in Clitheroe. Great fun night with LOTS of dancing.
Lemonheads in Stockholm, touring the Varshons 2 album. Routine but good as usual, the covers were best. Before that, Anna von Hausswolf, who was stunning, exceptional. Check her out if you haven't-
Jimmy Vaughn Trio (with Mike Flanagan on Hammond B3) at Iridium Room in NYC on Friday night. The Monkees present the Mike and Micky show at Beacon Theater Saturday night. Both great shows.
