We just saw Liam Neeson's Cold Pursuit. What an odd movie but I really enjoyed it. It's like a send-up of Liam Neeson movies.

  9. I found it uneven. Some occasionally funny moments but I don't remember the characters hanging together too well.

Wasn’t perfect. Budget constraints. As is, stroked the muse.

Zhang Yimou's "Shadow" on UHD 4K.

If the opening portion is spent revealing the setting's dynamics and the finishing portion is spent completing plot details, well, to quote Matt Zoller Seitz from his Roger Ebert site review, "Once the action kicks in...'Shadow' is on rails." And that is certainly true.

The set design, interior/exterior lighting and framing, foggy distances, not quite black and white not quite desaturated style/photography, all, to my eye at least, work to make a very rich yet clean visual beauty. Zhang Yimou is highly regarded for his color work, but here he uses a much more limited palette. It looks good, and it deepens the mood just a tad.

Watched the first half of T2: Trainspotting last night. It's a 2K DI but the HDR is fantastic and it's a clear upgrade from the Blu-ray when you add in the STUNNING Dolby Atmos track.

Just picked up the other Mission Impossible movies, only 3 and 5 are UHD upscales, looking forward to rewatching the entire series.

I streamed Crazy Rich Asians tonight. I really liked the movie. It was a very good RomCom that shows the extravagance of the very rich. It also has a family vibe that you don't have to be Asian to understand. Good watch, not profound but entertaining.

    Sirens (1994) UK BD.

Sam Neill, Hugh Grant, Tara Fitzgerald.

Fun little film, but the blu-ray was about as bare bones as it was possible to make - no director's commentary, no missing scenes, no 5.1 (it's stereo only).......

    Not even any subtitles!!!

I watched this on the plane on a trip to San Francisco in January. I found it quite engaging; the chronological jumps were not always adequately signposted, but I was watching on a small screen. Best thing about the film is Charlie Sexton's performance as Townes Van Zandt. I met Charlie a couple of months ago and still regret not asking him about how he got involved in it all.

Thanks for the tip! Just ordered a copy (German blu-ray - only got a DVD release in the UK. It seems Europe changed the title to The Last Act.
