Just read this elsewhere. Sad news. Listened to a lot of Singles Going Steady growing up.

    RIP

I second this; those guys were great writers that even people who wouldn’t normally listen to punk would dig them.

Had a huge crush on him, especially after the Homosapien video.

Oh man. I remember being 15 years old, I was just discovering the punk world, listening to the Buzzcocks and I remember I wanted to be as cool as them.

The epitome of a punk band - and singer.

Screw the "punk scene", Buzzcocks were one of the best bands of any genre, any era, and Shelley was one of the best songwriters. His sharp, searching, humorous lyrics were as compact and jabbing as the guitars he and Steve Diggle wielded. The decision to remain gender neutral in his lyrics was ahead of it's time, as was his coming out in the NME just as he was launching his solo career. He doesn't seem to get the accolades of some of his contemporaries, probably because he just got on with it. A true great, and the music holds up beautifully because it hit the head, the heart and the feet.
RIP sir, and thank you for all those amazing songs.

If you don't adore a band who does a song titled "Orgasm Addict," you're dead inside.

Very sad news. Saw them live many times, including with Mike Joyce on drums in the 80s, and most recently with Howard Devoto back singing with the band!

( I should explain for the benefit of some here that Mike Joyce was the drummer with the Smiths, a highly-regarded British indie combo of the 1980s. Howard Devoto you can look up, and should, really).

Yeah? So why isn’t that info in the thread heading and first post? You people never learn here. Educate your fellow members. Don’t assume everyone’s musical interests are the same.

RIP Pete. So many catchy songs written by this man, "What Do I Get" and "Promises" are among my favorites.
