For me, Hazle's best album, he put everything in the hands of Shel Talmy and he dedicated himself to singing. my favorite songs are bye babe and the night before. lee hazlewood showed phil spector the wall of sound. this song reminds me of the church - under the milky way what do you think
Love the album and this track especially.Great arrangement that keeps building-the organ towards the end seals the deal
A fantastic hazlewood album and definitely one that should be sought out. For me cowboy in Sweden and requiem for an almost lady are his best. But his output from the 1960s to the early 1970s has so many classics.
Actually, it reminds me of Echo and the Bunnymen. Not just the voice (which matches Mac's lower register) but the vocal melody in the chorus and instrumentation. It reminds me of The Church a tiny bit too, but not nearly as much. But I can see the comparision--it's not too far out there. Regardless, really cool song.
He had such a terrific run, which just kept going when he landed in Sweden. I have every single thing of his I could lay hands on, and I’d have to say Forty is his best. Production is top notch, songs are varied and excellent, and Lee really put out his best vocals. Bonus: a nowhere else to be found Randy Newman tune.
Same. While I know it's technically a compilation/soundtrack of sorts, Cowboy In Sweden was my introduction to Lee so it's a tie.
I slightly prefer Eric Burdon’s version of Randy Newman’s Wait Till Next Year, but Lee’s is more charming!
