Just bought "Leon Russell and the Shelter People" on e-bay thinking it was the DCC/Shelter version from the late 80's. But no, it's on the Right Stuff label from '95. According to Tower's website this version was also remastered by Steve. Anyone know what the deal is on this one?
Unless Shelter released the SH masters to Right Stuff I don't see how it's possible. Wish I knew Blair. (Nevermind)

Thanks Roger, That answers the question pretty clearly. I'll have to look for more of Leon's music on Right Stuff. I can't believe they were smart enough to uise Steve's masters. Must have been a mistake !
Part of the sale of SHELTER from DCC to Capitol was that they could use my versions. (They didn't do it because they loved the sound of my work; they did it to save money)....
As Magic said, good for us listeners and fans...but the corporate mindset is so depressing you want to cry at the cynicism of it all.... ED
Are all of the Right Stuff CD's using your masters Steve ? The Shelter discography on this site shows quite a few Leons.
I'm not Steve obviously, but I'll chime in here. The only Leon collections (to my knowledge) to use Steve's mastering are Best of Leon on DCC and Delta Lady on a DCC subsidiary whose name eludes me (sure wish I had one to refer to). Both of the DCC collections have some unique mixes and both have Steve's signature sound. The EMI collections use different mastering and don't sound nearly as good to my ears. As far as I know, all the individual Leon Russell albums on The Right Stuff use Steve's mastering and sound great. Cheap, too!
They might have used Steves' mastering for Leons' Shelter catalog , but when The first 2 Dwight Twilley titles were re-issued by The Right Stuff they were remastered and also had the bonus tracks changed...different agreements I guess??????? JF
Just picked up a Best Of Leon LP by Shelter Recording Company on the ABC Records label. Quite dirty but should clean up nicely. I think I just picked up a SH disc for $1 .
Re-reading this thread while listening to this disc, while it don't sound bad, it's the original and not the SH version. Oh well.
