This is the next hole I have to plug. Are the DCC silver & gold issues the same mastering? If not, what are the differences in sound. It appears that the silver was released 4 years before the gold.
The quality is comparible in my opinion. I 'm sure better systems disagree. I went with the gold because of "Shoot out at the Plantation." I fell in love with the song from one of the Underground Radio disks Steve did.
IIRC, the silver one was mastered with solid state equipment while the gold CD was remastered with tube equipment. I've read that in an interview with SH in a German HiFi magazine in the mid 90s.
Larry is Correct!! The Silver DCC has an earlier, less compressed, previously unrealesed mix. The Gold disc has the "Official Mix". I have both, but prefer the silver disc
The search I ran last night before posting turned up many dozen threads with thousands of messages. If anyone has a link to that thread, or remembers something else about it that may narrow the search results...
Thanks! Great thread. This is gonna hurt my wallet more than I expected. Does that Del Rack ever turn up on ebay?
I don't have either one but let me just veer off topic a tiny bit to say that I love Leon and he was my idol/role model as a piano player when I was a kid, at least in the rock music side of things. Noboday can say enough nice things about Leon as far as I'm concerned. I'm glad people are up here talking about him.
BTW, I STILL haven't gotten an answer to my original question in that prior thread. "how does the new DVD 96-24 release of the 1st album stack up against the gold disc sound-wise?"
