Not a great album but certainly worth hearing. It has a handful of good songs. IMO it is much better than anything else that he released in the following 30 years.
Love his James Gang albums and, while I always find something worthwhile on his later albums, I favour the two Barnstorm albums and "So What". "So What" was a college favorite to mellow out to after a smokey dorm room party
Ive always liked Joe's "hey man howya doin" character to his vocals. Sits well with me. Rides Again mfsl sacd is a winner imo. Joe isnt complicated. I like that also. His guitar playing isnt unlike his vocals. The same feel. Which makes me like his music even more.
agree.....I kind of wish lifes been good was on a different record....its a great song but the mood of the rest of the album is so different, always loved this ditto joes albums.....very little has come out and id love some early JW sets to be released....his catalog really doesn't get respect
Both are pretty good overall and feature a couple Walsh classics. Had no idea they went OOP. Used to have them both on vinyl and CD. (now only have the CDs). Worth seeking out if you can get lucky...
I've been listening to "But Seriously Folks" on headphones before bed for a week. It's been a few years since I last listened. What a lush and wonderfully melodic album. My biggest impression? This album is way too short!
Interestingly enough, it was recorded during "The Long Run" period. Joe clearly had some high quality material at his disposal, yet by all accounts The Eagles were stifled creatively and having difficulty completing songs. Granted, Henley and Frey wanted to keep their stronghold on the writing and creative direction of the band, but I always found it a bit surprising that they did not turn to Walsh's songbook during the period (the were working on "Rivers" during the sessions, but it was never completed).
Interesting ranking of Eagles solo albums here: Eagles Solo Albums Ranked Worst to Best Joe gets lots of praise.
No doubt about it. I referenced that in my post. Frey and Henley likely wanted to maintain a stronghold on publishing. That being said, had the album expanded to two discs (which was the original plan), Joe probably would have had up to three songs on the LP.
Walsh or Vitale? lol JW only had one stone cold classic after joining with But Seriouslys the eighties efforts were less substantial still Got any Gum way better than the 37 spot. malibu gonna get you alone makes it worth it.
Well, who knows. I'm not so sure about it since i noticed he just had one song on Long Road Out Of Eden, wich is even weirder as LROE is a double ; the "new boy in town" (Stevart Smith) had 5 (co-writing tough) ...
I hear you, but we are talking about two very different eras. The "Long Run Leftovers" medley from the band's "Selections" box set contains snippets of both "Rivers" and "Told You So," so it is not out of the realm of possibility that if "The Long Run" had been doubled in length, that Joe Walsh would have been represented by more than just "In The City." "Rivers" could have been an epic Eagles song.
