Okay, any comments are, of course, welcome

    Here's my gear:

Speakers: Tannoy Reveal Pro Nearfield Monitors

    Pre-Amp: B&K MC-101 Sonata Series

Power-Amp: QSC MX1500a Professional Stereo Amplifier

    Headphones: AKG K-501

CD Player: Sony CDP-C801ES 5-Disc Changer; also I am awaiting my brand new Sony SCD-C555ES Multichannel SACD/CD 5-Disc Changer (it should be here in a week. Whoopie! :) )

    AM/FM Tuner: Sony 550ES

    Minidisc: Sony MDS-501 player/recorder

Cassette Deck: Tascam 202 MK II, Dual Deck Dolby HX Pro

    Cables: Monster

I am also awaiting the arrival of a Sony STR-DE475 Dolby Digital/DTS Receiver w/ 5.1 channel input and Cambridge SoundWorks Ensemble IV Home Theater Speaker System, Items I purchased so I could utilize the multichannel outputs
of the C555ES. Not high end, I know, but for the price and the relative quality of the speakers and reciever, it is all I need at the moment as far as my multichannel needs are concerned, for now at least ;) .

From what I have heard, anyhow, the Cambridge SoundWorks Ensemble IV Home Theater Speaker System outperforms most HT speakers in their price range as well as some more expensive ones, and they actually sound quite nice.

    Cheers everyone.

I went back and did an edit. Oops. If you hold your ear really really close to your cartridge while a record is spinning you can sorta listen thata way.

I bet those powerful Bryston amplifiers help out a great deal when listening that way. :D

I love Bryston equipment. I don't think you can improve the performance much without spending way more money.

    Mart New Member

Bryston does exhibit a quality but I was swayed when I did a ABX with an equivalently rated Krell powering a Magnepan. However, I can agree that a Bryston would most likely be superior powering a Martin-Logan.

Krell makes very nice stuff. My Bryston 7Bs put out 500w. Krell's closest match would be FBP 650 mono blocks a very nice pair of amps. Priced at $24K for the set!!! I'd agree they are little better in the bass area, but just the amps alone cost more than most of my system.

I was comparing a Bryston:4B versus a Krell:KAV-500. Both were rated at 250W/ch into 8ohms. The Krell made the maggies sound more articulate & dynamic & reproducing more bass extension as well as treble extension. What can I say? However, the dealer had a ML:reQuest. The Krell vibrated the stator something aweful. The results were not complementory, IMHO. It sounded like the screens needed Marigo Audio : Tuning Dots.

amps: still sitting here, still in the box
preamp: chosen for resale value and headphone amp. Basically, I need more time to choose what I really want. Also if I go vintage, it would be good to have a back up.
Speakers: got these demos for half price. No warranty and tweeters on other models have been known to blow. I think they sound really sweet.
cdp: not the most transparent but pleasing in its own way
Sub: ugh, what ever happened to the good old three-way with a 10" or 12" woofer?

Speakers get picked up mon., pre on fri., sub is due in mid-march. I'm ordering a new (carbon fiber) kayak soon, but after that I want a to set up a 2A3 based system. We'll see...

B&K AVP 1030 (Use now as FM Tuner)
    Sony 32" Wega
    XLO Signature Interconnects

Listening room is 25 (L) x 15(W) x 14 (high). No sound treatments. Music sounds unbelievable in room.

Very happy with system. Hardly watch video. The Linn Ikemi made a huge difference. Made CD's sound much less digital.

Turntable: Rega Planar 3/Grado Red cart (terrible hum, thinking of trying a rega cart)

Preamp: Mcintosh c-28 (an older piece that has everything I need for my system)

Poweramp: Mcintosh mc2505 (solid state, 50 watts/channel, perhaps my speakers could use more but the room is quite small)

CD player: Mcintosh MCD 7005 (single disc player currently for sale for $650.00 US)

SACD player: Sony SCD XE670 (the cheapest unit available right now. I bought it to tie me over until I decide on a source for the long haul. Actually sound very good for the price point.)

Speakers: Rogers LS7t (2-way stand mounted floorstanders. I bought these used in mint condition a couple of years ago. I think they go quite well with the Mcintosh stuff.)

    A picture of my system without the SACD player can be seen at;

These "I'll show you mine if you show me yours" threads are always fun.

My stuff is mostly UK designed and built, though I live on the west coast of North America. Anyway:

Rega P25 Turntable with Elys Cart and Heavyweight counterweight.
Acoustech PH1 Phono pre-amp (ok this piece is US design and built)

    Arcam Alpha 9 CD player

    Rotel 940 Tuner

Arcam Alpha 9 Integrated Amp and Arcam Alpha 9 Power Amp bi-wired

All feeding a pair of Linn Keilidh speakers

Other toys include about 430 LPs, 300 CDs, CBC2 (Canada's national broadcaster), Linn interconnects and speaker wires, Straight Wire interconnects, a handful of vibrapods, Disc Doctor LP cleaning products and a somewhat tolerant son.

    Keith,

You have an outstanding collection of disc players. How do you decide which one to use? I guess stereo SACDs on the 777, multichannel SACDs on the 555, DVD-Audio on the A-10, CDs on the Ah! ... what do the mega-changers do?

I'd love to see a picture of your hifi.
