This evening I'm listening to a very fine recording of the Symphony No.1 by Sir William Walton. The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra is led by Vernon Handley. My LP (pictured above) is a 1981 Nonesuch Records release of a 1978 UK recording that was originally issued on the ASV (Academy Sound & Vision) label. In 2006, it apparently received a CD release on the (UK) Resonance label.
Yes, I guess that was shot around that time. I was there in September. Did not see Bruno Ganz or Peter Falk.
I saw that. It's the one where they are making a movie. Interesting, but darned if I remember much more about it. I'll have to see it again.
In Der Himmel über Berlin, Potsdamer Platz is almost empty. And the roof of Philharmoniesaal can be seen in the long shoot in the middle of the movie.

Having spent the morning walking on the Hahnenkamm in Kitzbuhel in the Austrian Alps I’m now relaxing in my hotel, avoiding a storm, listening to Mahler 6. It’s been a cowbell filled day!
I’d love to ski that, although not like the racers. I’ve skied most of the Birds of Prey at Beaver Creek on bumps. The only part that I didn’t ski was the Golden Eagle jump. It was closed due to a wind storm knocking down trees across it. I did stand at the top and look down and it’s essentially a cliff that snow sticks to. You really have to be nuts to be a downhill racer.
Disc 58 of Mozart 225 The New Complete Edition. Symphonies and a serenade by Hogwood, Brüggen and Pinnock. Symphony in D major K320 "Posthorn Serenade" Symphony No. 35 in D major K385 "Haffner" Symphony No. 36 in C major K425 "Linz" Slow introduction K444 to Symphony in G major by Michael Haydn MH 334
I stood in the starting gate. Very steep from the outset. Probably looks even worse when there is snow.
Abbado and the BPO. In this recording he plays andante then scherzo. In his CSO recording he plays it scherzo then andante.

The Symphony is OK--has sort of Shostakovich vibe. Will report back on the Violin Concerto once I listen to it.
I have owned this Walcha's stereo box for many years but acquired his earlier mono box about ten years ago ...
