Some of my favorite HIP ensembles include the Academy of Ancient Music, the London Classical Players, the L'Orchestre Revolutionaire et Romantique, the Petite Bande, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, and the English Baroque Soloists.
I have an lp of Dvorak symphony #8 and an lp of Dvorak #4. But they are the same music! Did they change the name or what's the story on this? Thx!
They changed the opus number several times. I can't tell you the details, but I read about it on Wiki. Search for "Dvorak from the new world."
I received two Szell boxes today from Amazon. Why two? I ordered the first one on 11/2-Prime 2 day delivery. For several days, UPS did not recognize the tracking number, so I figured it was lost (just like the one I ordered from Amazon Warehouse deals that never arrived). So I ordered another one two days ago and figured I would get Amazon to issue a refund for the other one. Last night, UPS tells me the package (11/2 order) will arrive today. The one ordered two days ago came via USPS nicely packed in bubble wrap in a box inside a bigger box containing the White Album 50th Anniversary vinyl and CD sets. All is good, and I planned to set up a return to Amazon for the UPS delivery. The UPS box comes-no shrink wrap, not in a outer box-this was supposed to be new! That one is on the right in the first picture. The second picture is the bottom of the box that was on various floors. I went on Amazon and set up a return for refund that UPS will pick up Monday. Amazon says I have to pack the box. So, I'll use the box the new set came in.
Now playing CD30 - Mozart Piano Sonatas Nos 1 -3 and Rondo in D major from the following box for a first listen. This is an ugly one as I have to grapple with a 4-panel gatefold ...
Recorded Jan./Feb. 1970 & issued the same year. After recording for English Decca, Ricci switched to American Decca.
1975 reissue of LSC-2969 (1967). Recorded 11/21/66. Producer: Richard Mohr. Engineer: David Philhower. Not a very distinguished label design.
This cover always makes me think there is a fire nearby These are my favorite performances for the Op. 3 Concerti Grossi. Continuing with Ernst Levy- Vol 2 playing the four included Haydn piano sonatas- 31, 47, 60, 61. All 1956 recordings done at MIT. Taking a break from my Beethoven piano sonata traversal of my more recently acquired box sets for another day or so. I've heard Levy play all the late sonatas (along with the Liszt Piano Sonata are what convinced me to keep my eyes open for these Marston volumes), but I will be re-listening to them when I get to that part. I have also ordered both Naxos Gieseking Beethoven volumes, a huge thank you to @Marzz for helping me hear him play Op. 31/2 (will get to Op. 57 soon), that is an unusual and unique performance.
It’s unbelievable to me that this can even happen! How little can people care? The interesting thing is that your “un-boxed” set from UPS is actually in physically better shape than the one I got in an insufficient outer box from Import CDs. Yours is dirtier, but doesn’t have smashed corners. How disappointing! It’s fortunate that you did get one in great shape, though. Now, enjoy listening to the contents!!
Seems a logical coupling, but I don't think I've come across it before. Issued 1974. Recorded 4/25-26/73 (Pictures) & 5/16-17/73 (Bolero). Producer: Max Wilcox. Engineer: Paul Goodman.
Please let people know when the Amazon & Amazon U.K. links go up for the Sony Classical box for Pablo Casals and for the DG box for Seiji Ozawa.
I've read several accounts where Amazon now sometimes ships items with no outer packaging, which is just ridiculous.
Here is the aforementioned 1978 reissue of the 1964 Supraphon album. As I expected, sound is considerably better than that on the Epic LP that I posted.
First listen to new arrival, "Music from the Court of King Janus at Nicosia (1374-1432)" performed by the Huelgas Ensemble directed by Paul Van Nevel on Vivarte.
This is a USA pressing for London Records. But not the usual US Decca pressing you find (who then pressed most USA London Classical product, and many pop LP discs) . That typeface is familiar on occasion. And the records I've seen with this typeface were pressed by RCA Victor in their then Indianapolis, Indiana plant.
Difficult to deal with, been there (Mom helped). Hang in there, and music is your refuge from being overwhelmed from all that is involved dealing with what's around you.
