The things I have by him are good, but I don't have a lot. I love Gershwin and think he would have continued to grow as a "serious" composer as well as producing many more great songs if he had lived. Schoenberg made an interesting statement about Gershwin, calling him in effect a born composer & comparing him to many who know the rules & how to put music together but don't really deserve the status of composer. To Schoenberg composing was a matter of "inner necessity".
Another good one from CSOP. Issued 1968, with a 1967 matrix code. Producer: Howard Scott. Engineer: Paul Goodman.
Issued 1964. No producer & engineer are listed. This may be a compilation. This is my favorite RCA label design.
Frank Zappa plays the horn. Recorded 5/71, Abbey Road Studio No. 1. Producer: Christopher Bishop. Engineer: Christopher Parker. Issued 1972.
Even considering the monumental greatness of Bach’s canata output taken as a whole, this one is something quite special, and this performance does it full justice - - J. S. Bach: ‘Himmelskönig, sei willkommen’, BWV 182
Interesting! I've had Brusilow's biography on my pile to read for a while, was curious to hear him as a conductor as opposed to soloist.
CD from the third Living Presence box. Paray shines here with these fun overtures in great sound. I can only imagine how good the SACD sounds.
