Here is the digital evil twin ... There is probably a second digital evil twin in the following box I have not even opened yet
Lunch time listening starting Sibelius' Symphonic Poem En Saga (Colin Davis/BSO) and afterward a handful of Haydn's Op. 20 "Sun" Quartets (Quatuor Mosaiques). Maybe some Schoenberg string quartets if I have time. And last night I concluded making my way through the Kempff APR set on 1925-1936 Beethoven Late Piano Sonatas set by hearing Op. 111 from it. A seriously good release, no doubt his playing is superior here than in the DG mono or stereo.

All this talk of Boulez and Schoenberg got me to listen to the new Dutton SACD of Boulez and the BBC Philharmonic doing the Gurrelieder in quadraphonic surround...
Continuing my exploration of Ligeti: Ligeti: Violin Concerto, Lontano, Atmosphères, & San Francisco Polyphony. Benjamin Schmid; Hannu Lintu: Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Ondine.
Colin Davis was the best interpreter of Berlioz's works and I have all his Berlioz's choral works on Philips LP. I recently got his last and most ambitious set, which would take me a long time to get through ...
This set looks pretty interesting. But I checked the contents, and outside of a few recitals discs, the Schubert/Schumann disc and the Chopin disc, it seems I already have just about all of these recordings as one offs. Still, this looks like it would be a great set for those who don't own much Backhaus and want to familiarize themselves with his underappreciated artistry.
...if it gets released at all. As I posted upthread the release date has been put back again, this time to February 14, 2020.
Doulce Memoire. Grayston Burgess, Purcell Consort. UK Argo A fine compilation of French chansons composers of the 16th C focusing on Claude LeJeune.
Uh oh. That's not a good sign... I generally avoid these big box sets, as I've collected most of what interests me already from the soloists and conductors that are getting box set treatment through other means. That said, I did recently pick up two boxes that fill a lot of gaps for two specific artists: Joseph Keilberth: Complete Telefunken recordings For a long time most of his recordings were only available as super expensive OOP Japanese discs. This set collects most of those, and does so at a reasonable price. Henryk Szeryng Edition: Complete Mercury, Philips & DG recordings Similarly to above, some of the performances in this box have never been available on disc, save OOP Japanese releases I've never been able to locate, such as the Tchaikovsky concerto with Dorati, Sibelius and Prokofiev with Rozhdestvensky, and a Symphonie Esapagnole with Beinum, plus a few other key rarities.
OOOOOOOH. Just yesterday I nabbed a long OOP disc from Discogs that had been on my wantlist for a looooong time. It's coming from overseas. Will report back once I actually receive it. (I am SOOOOO excited!)
