Recorded 5/59, Sofiensaal, Vienna. Producer: John Culshaw. Engineer: James Brown. First issued 12/59. This 1982 Jubilee LP was mastered by Decca in the UK & pressed in Holland. Unfortunately, the second movement had be divided between the two sides.
Listening to "Brahms / Tchaikovsky - Violin Concertos" performed by Erica Morini with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra led by Artur Rodzinski on Westminster.
Erika Morini - Wikipedia I only have two recordings by Morini, both with Ferenc Fricsay in his first DG box.
Cool. Somehow I'd missed that Presto deal. Thanks for mentioning it. Think I might avail myself of a few hi-res recordings from that Guitar Laureate series
An old old favorite of mine (probably the fifth or sixth classical CD I ever bought), which I’ve just listened to on SACD for the first time.
On Spotify, first listen to "Meditation Medievale" performed by Ensemble Obsidienne directed by Emmanuel Bonnardot on Bayard Musique.
On Spotify, first listen to "Leonora Duarte - The Complete Works" performed by Sonnambula directed by Elizabeth Weinfield on Centaur.
Recorded 8/5-7/69, Victoria-Saal, St. Moritz, Switzerland. This LP was released in 1973 & seems to have been the first issue. Producer: Otto Gerdes. Recording supervision: Hans Weber. Engineer: Günter Hermanns. The Respighi is from Ancient Airs & Dances.
This album was jolting when I first heard it, but I've come to appreciate the approach Karajan takes to these pieces. It's not even "big band Baroque," more like "artillery barrage Baroque."
I have many LPs featuring Mark Ermler conducting the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra in various Russian operas. These are generally wonderful performances and worth collecting and enjoying ( if you like Russian opera of course).
Yes, according to the booklet in the Karajan box set these recordings were made August 5, 1969 and released as LP 2530 247. The release date is not given but the CD version in the box set is part of the 1960s section.
Right now I am letting the Symphony Hall channel on Sirius/XM determine my listening. Bruch is playing now, Scottish Fantasy for Violin and Orchestra.
