You've found the cover for their next release. Right now I'm listening to a radio program 0f 60s garage & psychedelic rock, so these covers fit right in.

I know I posted this yesterday because it showed up in the mail, but I am just getting around to listening to this performance tonight. I will say that I've heard quite a few "Ninths" but this Adagio third movement is sublimely beautiful IMO, it's brought tears.

Some of the creepiest organ music I've ever heard. But also some of the most beautiful and mesmerizing...

I love this Concerto Grosso. His dualistic impulse towards construction and subsequent destruction of forms can be quite mesmerizing.

Recorded 5/52, Victoria Hall, Geneva. Producer: Victor Olof. Engineer: Gil Went. Issued 8/52, when I was two months old. There is considerable low-level surface noise, but the music is clear, undistorted & well-recorded.

While HvK isn't my cuppa in all classical repertoire (despite the fact that he recorded everything) - he is a real master in the late Romantic idiom, a la R.Strauss, Bruckner et al. This is a sumptuous recording, and the BPO's lush string tones are a perfect complement to Schoenberg's late Romantic masterpiece, before his transition to full-fledged Serialist.

To offer a correction, Schoenberg never fully abandoned tonality. He actually, in fact, continued to write tonal works throughout his life.

Perhaps so, but I hear a distinct departure from a root key in works like the second Chamber Symphony, the Violin Concerto, and the later quartets. Perhaps not strict serialism though; I’m no musicologist...
