Breaking out one of my most prized records. Original pressing (cover unfortunately has some light water damage in one corner, but this disc is EX to NM). I don't collect many soundtracks but it's among my all time favorite movies and took me a long time to hunt a copy down. Great stuff from Wendy Carlos, Ligeti, Bartok and Penderecki, fit the movie perfectly.

BTW, I actually prefer the Brahms Requiem over the Mozart Requiem ...

I actually have this DVD on Unitel, a DG label.

I've heard that the Estate, such as it is with Christopher no longer around, doesn't have any say over movie adaptations and that Tolkien sold the rights for all cinematic adaptations while he was still alive (I think with the only stipulation being that Disney could never own it - but not sure if that's true or enforceable). Maybe I've gotten my wires crossed or misunderstood somewhere along the line.

Overall, I'd be stoked if this turned out to be good, but I've been burned so many times by resurrected properties that once turned a huge profit. The current crop of writers just isn't up to the task across the board and even things like the Blade Runner sequel raise more interesting questions than the ones they choose to explore or answer. If talent skips a generation, we're sitting in the middle of that "lost" generation. Hey, maybe in 15 years things will start to pick up.

In the meanwhile, we still have the books if nothing else!

Unfortunately, come 2025, there will be another 'new' Complete CPE Bach Edition ... :sigh:

Wow. I didn’t see a price point for the new edition. Thanks.

    Re: sleeves
That’s nice but you can’t seal it closed after the incision. I’ll probably just replace the paper sleeves with more durable ones.

I tried to open a few of them properly, but the glue was so strong that they just ripped. I'll probably replace all of them when I'm done opening them. Same thing with the Mendelssohn Edition from Hänssler.

I don't like those sealed CD jackets. They are a pain to open. I have the same problem with Annie Fischer's Hungaroton Beethoven Piano Sonatas box ...

Yes, finished going through the majority of the collection about a month ago at least--although I skipped a lot of the early music. I will listen to that bit by bit. I've been picking up interesting things at the thrift stores and used record stores all along. Today I went to the thrift store that has the biggest selection in town. I had a day off so was able to spend a little time digging through the disorganized piles. I was about to leave but on my way out happened to see a shelf of records in an area they usually don't have any and it had a bunch of classical stuff all grouped together--probably a batch someone dropped off all at once. These donations, when you find them, are always the most rewarding to go through. I picked the best records out of what was there.

With the early music, I find it hard to orient myself. I find it hard to recognize styles and composers the way we so easily do in later periods, so I don't know where to start. I will get to it eventually, though....

There are hints at sex in LOTR, IIRC. Let's not forget sex is an essential part of life; where would we be without it (non existent is the reply). However I concur that LOTR should not be pornographised. And to go totally off topic, I thoroughly enjoyed "Sex Education" on Netflix, a breath of fresh air in a constrained world. I'm old enough to remember when there had to be a foot on the floor in movie bedroom scenes:D.

I listened to a few discs of the Hänssler C.P.E. Bach Edition earlier, too many little pieces to list, but wonderful playing by Ana-Marija Markovina. It's a pretty amazing project to record all of the sonatas and little Fantasias and Solfeggios.

Now onto some Schubert with Alfred Brendel from the gigantic Complete Philips Recordings box set. I've mainly been listening to Schubert's most popular later sonatas, but I'm going to check out some of the earlier ones now.

Schubert: Piano Sonata No. 14 in A minor, D. 784
Schubert: Piano Sonata No. 16 in A minor, D. 845
Schubert: Piano Sonata No. 17 in D major, D. 850

Call me sentimental, but the Richard Stoltzman version of Mozart's K622 slays me every time.

The version of Stoltzman with the Tokyo Chamber Orchestra is just divine. Of course, I listen to the entirety (Allegro, Adagio, Rondo) at home. This youtube is only the Adagio.

That's funny. I don't see a relationship between GoT and LOTR in any way whatsoever. The two are in no way alike.

Continuing my retraversal of this set with CD5:

    Joseph Haydn - Symphony 42, 44 "Trauer" & 46 - Pinnock/EC

For anyone who has the Collectors Edition, does the booklet have the notes for each volume by Nicholas Kenyon? I'm considering replacing these with the CE to save shelf space, but the Pinnock/EC Handel CE was such a downgrade in terms of all the non-music content, I may avoid it if the same applies here.
