Yes-that is the disc. It skips on my 3 players. It has been the only bad disc so far. At home I no longer have a computer-I use iPhone and fire tablet. I do have office computers so I could check it there if I can find time.
This morning-a rest from Karajan. This disc has Borodin-Symphony 2, Mussorgsky-A Night on Bare Mountain and Pictures at an Exhibition. Recordings are from 1947, 1948 and 1953, respectively. Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra. Some of the recordings are pretty rough but still worth listening to in my opinion. He was a great conductor.
Amazon Commercial Services Pty Ltd? I wonder what kind of tax dodging scheme is involved in setting up this entity? For the longest of time, Amazon sold books and music at losses since they wanted to grab those market shares and drove competitors out of business. They could afford that since AWS had 60-70% shares of the cloud computing market but these days, even the Prime membership rakes in some $10B a year. Are there any Whole Foods Market in down under? They spent $13B on the Whole Paycheck outfit though it is hardly profitable. I have the Beethoven Symphonies box, Karajan and His Soloists aad Karajan and His Soloists II small boxes and they are probably included in this big box. I doubt I want to get this big box though some of smaller boxes of Karajan with the Philharmonia or VPO may be interesting.
My Switch-On Bach CD on Telarc says Wendy Carlos. So your LP was probably released when she was still Walter Carlos ...
Which makes me wonder if they have updated the director credits on The Matrix from brothers to sisters
I did not even know there was a Walter Carlos then I thought it might be a husband-wife team before looked the wikipage. Too lazy to check as I am not even sure if that Telarc's Switched-On was a brand-new recording or it was licensed from Columbia ...
And now from the “Nikolai Golovanov The Collection”- a wonderful version of Tchaikovsky’s “Francesca da Rimini”. 1949 recording. Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra. Clean, clear mono-well -recorded. This particular composition is one of my favorites.
Listening to "Stevan Hristic - The Legend of Ohrid / Josip Slavenski - Balkanophonia" performed by the Radio-Philharmonie Hannover des NDR led by Moshe Atzmon on CPO.
HELP ! I'm really interested in getting a set of Shostakovich quartets by the Borodin Quartet. There is an early 60's/70's set, an early 80's set, a late 80's set (Virgin) and a 90's set I believe. I'm erring towards the earliest set but if anyone has any advice, I would sincerely appreciate it. Also, equally important, can anyone give me advice as to which release of these sets is best. i.e. Melodiya, Chandos etc. Many thanks in advance, The second level boss at Chez Wugged......
Thanks B. My quartets education is moving on, as you can see ! Can you recommend a particular release of the original set ?
I have the individual releases on EMI, who licensed the Melodyia recordings. Each one has the same image, but the color is different. One includes a knockout performance of the Piano Quintet with Richter.
I have the second 1978-83 set on Melodiya and love it. It has the complete cycle of 15 plus the Piano Quintet (with Richter) and the Two Pieces for String Octet. Haven't heard the earlier set, so can't compare:
