The state used to be much more attentive to young talents, encouraging them to study with prominent musicians across the globe. Biret was one of those prodigies in the 1940s who got to study in Europe through a special law that the Turkish parliament enacted. But times change, and so do state policies. There are many young talents flourishing (even getting picked up by some solid record labels) but government support is only reserved for what it can make money on... This kind of reminds me of how Argentina gave two incredible pianists more or less around the same time.
Listening to "Hildegard von Bingen - Ego sum homo" performed by Tiburtina Ensemble directed by Barbora Kabatkova on Ricercar
I’m taking my 9-year old grandniece to the ballet a week from tomorrow. In addition to the Dream music, Balanchine uses other Mendelssohn works. (The ballet runs about 100 minutes IIRC.)
There have been a few times over maybe the last two years where I've wanted to buy a classical music CD but it was only available on streaming. Reminds me of the days when the music industry first started changing over to CDs.

DG 2726 071, two-LP set. Reissue of DG 139 329/330 from 1967. Recorded 12/16-17/66 and 1/2-10/67, UFA Studios, Berlin. Artistic supervision: Rainer Brock & Hans Ritter. Engineer: Harald Baudis. I prefer his singing to hers. The sound on this lacks clarity.
Now playing CD13 from the following box for a first listen ... Need to hurry up so I can wrap up my first pass through this box ...

It is very good. Tiburtina Ensemble is an excellent and beautiful sounding female vocals group with lovely arrangements. Ricercar is a great label for early music and sound quality. I have a bunch of their CDs. Both label and group highly rated on the bluemoozeometer.
