24/96 FLAC download. Eugène Walckiers: String Quintet No. 2 in C Minor, Op. 94 String Quintet No. 4 in A Major, Op. 108 Fabergé Quintett WALCKIERS String Quintets No. 2, 4 ES-DUR ES2084 [SG] Classical Music Reviews: October 2021 - MusicWeb-International
The work featured on the cover was performed 1995 at Washington National Cathedral. The CD also contains David Matthews’ Romanza for cello and small orchestra performed 1990 at the Ballroom, Buckingham Palace.
I have the Trio Sonatas performed by Heinz Holliger and friends. Quite enjoyable. I also have a few works of his by the Freiburger Barackorchester.
I first came across these recordings about 10 years ago now and became addicted to them after the first listen. I just bought the complete (18 disc) set (because I never could find all the individual discs). I think these recordings of Brahms transcriptions for piano provide precious insight into his musical thinking. I consider these recordings indispensable (to anyone who loves Brahms music).
Now playing the following CD from my Satie collection ... The second Satie CD's by Pascal Roge. I bought both together right before a concert at the Avery Fisher Hall back in the late 90's ...
Oh my, a new Krystian Zimerman release! I wish he had included at least one of the sonatas. Oh well, it's still excellent.
I thought I was the only "Hammer" who likes serious music. Just try discussing it with someone near you at a match.
First listen via Qobuz. 3 CD's of 'miscellaneous' (just sounds wrong, doesn't it?) Bach harpsichord pieces, performed by Pieter-Jan Belder. Belder's performances can be hot, cold or indifferent, but this one (so far) is excellent. [Edit] and available as a 24/96 downloand for $8.99, for over 3 hours of music. Brilliant Classics has the right idea, I'd say!
Now playing: Charles Avison - Concerti Grossi 1-6 After Sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti - Brandenburg Consort, Roy Goodman - recorded 1994 CD 1 of this set:
London CS 7076, issued 4/78. Recorded 2/4 & 7/77 (Concerto) and 4/13-14/77 (Op. 34), Kingsway Hall, London. This good young violinist was 18 at the time. Producer: Richard Beswick. Engineers: Kenneth Wilkinson & John Dunkerley.
Here is my HIP version of these works ... I also have the much older non-HIP version by Marriner and the ASMIF on Philips.
Now playing: Niccolò Paganini - Violin Concertos Nos. 3 & 6 - Salvatore Accardo, LPO, Charles Dutoit - recorded 1974, 1975 CD 2 of this set:
Listening to "Valentina Lisitsa - 1908" on Naive. Ravel - Gaspard de la nuit, M. 55 Rachmaninoff - Piano Sonata No. 1 in D Minor, Op. 28
Having an initial listen to the latest release from the Naive Vivaldi Edition, out today, directed by Julien Chauvin with Le Concert de la Loge. I have to add that I post the cover here with great glee. I enjoy these covers a lot, but my enjoyment is always increased by the angst they seem to cause some other folks here. (It's just a picture, guys - if you don't like it, turn it over and listen to the music!)
Salvatore Accardo has some serious longevity as a violinist and who can forget his recording with Anne Sophie Mutter when she was only 20. I have owned this CD for many years ...
Now playing: Leoš Janáček - Piano Works - Rudolf Firkušný, Bavaria RSO, Rafael Kubelik - recorded 1970, 1971 CD 2 of this set:
Do you have any other Janacek's recordings? This twofer is all the Janacek's recordings in my collection ...
I have seven more CDs with his music, including his famous Glagolitic Mass by the LSO under Tilson Thomas on Sony and Taras Bulba, Lachian Dances and Moravian Dances by the Warsaw PhO under Wit on Naxos. His two string quartets ("Sonate a Kreutzer" and "Lettres Intimes") by Quatuor Belcea is also highly recommended.
