Brahms: Violin Concerto; Double Concerto The Cleveland Orchestra & George Szell David Oistrakh, violin; Mstislav Rostropovich, cello (double conc.) EMI (SACD)
Listening to "Buonamente - L'e' tanto tempo hormai" performed by the Helianthus Ensemble with Laura Pontecorvo (flute) on Brilliant. Sonatas, canzonas and sinfonias
Just youtubed up a nice take on Couperin here (although there were times I would have liked the harpsichord to have been more audible relative to the oboe).
I have this 2001 Westminster/DG CD with one of the Concertos coupled with some Domenico Scarlatti. Recorded in Winterthur, Switzerland, 9/50 (Mozart) & 10/50 (Scarlatti).
Brings back Tom Lehrer's lovely tune: I remember the night I held you so tight, As we danced to the Wiener Schnitzel Waltz. Your lips were like wine (if you'll pardon the simile), The music was lovely and quite Rudolf Frimly. I drank wine, you drank chocolate malts, And we both turned quite green To the strains of the Wiener Schnitzel Waltz.
Listening to "Les Escholiers de Paris - Motets, chansons et estampies" performed by Ensemble Giles Binchois led by Dominique Vellard on Cantus.
I wonder if Clara Haskil made a lot of recordings for Westminster, whose catalog is now owned by DG. If so, I will not be surprised DG will release her big box in the future ...
@Wugged, Need to make a correction, it was a duet, not an aria ... It was entirely by accident that I discovered this duet on the internet. For the longest time, Bizet Carmen was the only French opera I knew but the singing in Lakme is far more beautiful IMHO ...
Listening to "Handel - Messiah" performed by the Choir Of Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford and the Academy Of Ancient Music led by Christopher Hogwood on L'Oiseau-Lyre. Featuring: Emma Kirkby Carolyn Watkinson Judith Nelson Paul Elliott David Thomas
All of her recordings for Philips, Decca, DG and Westminster were already issued in the 17CD "Clara Haskil Edition". Not sure whether it's still available
The box was released in 2010. It was more or less in the early stages of the "Classical Mega Box" era. I got it soon after it came out. https://www.discogs.com/release/9580167-Clara-Haskil-Clara-Haskil-Edition
I have this CD as well. Barry Tuckwell was the greatest horn player of his generation. A Melbournean from Victoria Australia who spent most of his career between the US and the UK. Not sure if my Aussie friend @Rick Bartlett knows about him ... I also have the following recording of his LP recording with Neville Marriner
From The Bach Pilrimage box JS Bach. Cantatas for Ascension Day John Eliot Gardiner, Monteverdi Choir, English Baroque Soloists
Continuing in a comic vein. I recall seeing this on U.S. (!) TV in the 60s. That was long before I heard the original. I currently own the complete Flanders and Swann, along with the complete sheet music. Oh, yeah: Brain/Von Karajan, Orpheus, and Civil/Marriner, the latter on SACD.
I love Flanders and Swann. I think Orpheus is the only version I currently own. (Though it might also be in the half dozen or so orchestral boxes I have yet to explore)
