The Beaux Arts Trio dates back to the '50s and I believe Pressler (the pianist) was the actual founder.
Greenhouse was still with the B.A.Trio throughout the '70s, at least on the records I have from that decade, so I assume he just took some time off to join Juilliard for this Schubert Quintet.

On a roll with Barbirolli now, some more Elgar and this disc also features Delius and Rubbra. I'll need to check out more Rubbra works, I'm really enjoying the Symphony.

Elgar: Cockaigne Overture, Op. 40 (In London Town)
Elgar: Serenade in E minor, Op. 20
Elgar: Dream Children, Op. 43 - I. Andante
Delius: A Song of Summer, RT VI/26
Rubbra: Improvisations on Virginal Pieces by Giles Farnaby, Op. 50 - IV. Loth to depart
Rubbra: Symphony No. 5 in B flat major, Op. 63

Great set, which I also bought in the ‘70s. The foam padded insert completely disintegrated with age but the records survived thankfully. ASMitF is a great place to attend an evening concert after a day of Nat’l Gallery and dinner, perhaps a couple beers at The Harp a little ways down the Strand afterwards.

I ordered the SACD from Presto on the strength of the description here. Its now on its way, and I have the 96/24 stream accessible while I wait. My fourth version of Art of Fugue - I have Helmut Walcha on organ, Emerson String Quartet and Rachel Podger's Brecon Baroque chamber ensemble. Still considering a piano version- I'm leaning towards Angela Hewitt.

I misread that as ZTT, and was wondering what Trevor Horn had to do with Beethoven sonatas!

For Kodaly I would check out the Decca 2 CD set by Antal Dorati. Also the more recent Naxos CD conducted by Joanne Falleta.

The ELP piece is based on a movement from a Ginastera piano concerto so you could explore those pieces. I have the Piano, and Cello concerto CDs on Naxos.

Bartok’s The Miraculous Mandarin, the complete ballet. Where to begin? From doing a little research here and other places, it seems like these are my best bets on CD, although affordable SACDs would be great:

    Boulez NY Philharmonic 1971

Dorati BBC Symphony Orchestra/LSO Mercury Living Presence

    Dorati Detroit S.O.

    Any others? Thanks!

Istvan Kertesz / London Symphony Orchestra

    London LP / 1966 / UK pressing

Kertesz and the LSO roll though this symphony faster than any other version I've heard, particularly in the final movement, but it never seems rushed or ragged. Just fabulous music well done. Very fine recording, too!
