New Artist Alert. I saw a few photos of Orville Peck and thought "Who is this Orion wannabe?" The other day I checked him out via Apple Music and 42 minutes later ordered the lp (which arrived damaged, but I digress). Last night I ordered tickets for a show in September. I absolutely love his album "Pony." If Chris Issak, Roy Orbison, and Orion walked into a bar, this would be the end result.
By the way, I just now stumbled upon this thread and am enjoying the posts. I worked at a country station from 2000-2010, but didn't care for the programming.
buckethead has a baritone and that's it and he's not link wray either lol. roy? issak even? sorry. when i die, that's not a place i want to find myself. i shouldn't have "watched". but. it's better than old town road. ( as if that's a redeeming comparison? ) yet if this is "country" we are headed to a dead end cul de sac. if this is "new" country? coupled with old town road? we, and the art form, are dead. zombies will rule.
Enjoyed hearing that track by The Blue Sky Boys. Another great brother act was The Wilburn Brothers. My favorite is Trouble's Back in Town
Some more modern but still great country/alt-country: Kathleen Edwards - "I Make The Dough, You Get The Glory"
great stuff. but phil and don killed that kinda **** this is a comp.. for anyone with as much "time" as i have any doubters? jump ahead to "Oh, lonesome me" @ 4:17 and forget it or 15:00 in. hank's classic "i'm so lonesome". this is ridiculously and honestly good. i dare you to defy. at 15:00 lol
I've recently scored two Merle Haggard box sets. Each one is four CDs. Down Every Road & The Epic Years. Total cost - $30.
After 60 years, "in 2019, Lefty Frizzell's version of 'Long Black Veil' was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Recording Registry for being 'culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant'" Been listening to a lot of Lefty in recent days, also. What an influential voice and singer! Almost anything by Lefty is well worthwhile.
i had to cross post this since i had to hear it again. once again, gp's gf drove him to drank. it just doesn't ( need to ) get any better. then there is this Emmylou Harris & Albert Lee At Beat CluB 1977 "Country Boy" High Quality
Did you ever see the Everly Brothers in concert? Myself, no. Their feud and breakup started in 1973 right when I started attending concerts. I wanted to attend a reunion concert when they supported Simon & Garfunkel, but distance and prohibitive ticket prices kept me away.
i never did, hear or meet either of them. sadly. i would have sung them "bird dog". but i'm on a momentary emmylou kick. never a huge fan of crowell ( for much the same reasons i don't think gp was all that ) but this is a nice live performance and the vamp end btw the strat and steel is ( i think? ) worth a listen.

I bought that LP as a kid. I believe at the time it may have been considered an act of desperation as the big hits were not coming anymore. They also did some Broadway show tunes on several other albums from that era! I came to love the music on Great Country Hits (except The Last Song, and their version of Silver Threads which could not compete with my love for The Springfields' version) and wish they had done a second album of more Country classics. Their voices were superb at that time. I was in heaven when I finally got the cd version of the album However the Loudermilk song It's Been a Long Dry Spell should be noted among their country flavored songs over many years. It's got great writing, instrumentation and the voices are killing!
