All of this talk of Stan Getz’s Sweet Rain got me in the mood for it: Stan Getz: Sweet Rain (Verve remaster)
Cool. Do you have most of his albums? I don’t own a lot of his earlier work, but I did happen to buy both of these via Amazon not too long ago:
People also widely believed that Robeson was a Communist, sympathetic to the Soviet Union as well as Communist Party of the United States leaders, who were prosecuted under the Smith Act for allegedly advocating the violent overthrow of the US government, and media reported that he had called the US a Fascist State. Just before the Peekskill concert, he was denounced and blacklisted for saying, "We in America do not forget that it was on the backs of the white workers from Europe and on the backs of millions of Blacks that the wealth of America was built. And we are resolved to share it equally. We reject any hysterical raving that urges us to make war on anyone. Our will to fight for peace is strong. We shall not make war on anyone. We shall not make war on the Soviet Union. We oppose those who wish to build up imperialist Germany and to establish fascism in Greece. We wish peace with Franco's Spain despite her fascism. We shall support peace and friendship among all nations, with Soviet Russia and the people's Republics." Paul Robeson - Wikipedia
On this album, Kenny Clarke utilizes bassist Paul Chambers and three relative unknowns who had recently arrived in New York from Detroit: baritonist Pepper Adams, pianist Tommy Flanagan and guitarist Kenny Burrell. Wish I could afford that original vinyl, alas, I make due with the 1977 reissue.
Yet another poster post, or maybe poster column. "One Night Only" that was Duke's life on the road. I wonder what the largest collection of Ellington posters looks like If you were walking by, would you swipe one? Would you try to be discreet? Would you just walk up and grab it? I might use the technique where I tried to look like I was actually putting one up, but by a twist of the wrist, it was gone, and I would do a Michael Jackson moon dance as I backed away
Funny, I just picked these two up yesterday at GW. There were a handful of others but these looked promising.
Spending some time with this one this morning. I've had it for awhile but only listened a time or two. I think it's the only LP I have on Strata-East.

Those remind me of the days when I wanted to be an ethnomusicologist, doing field recordings for the United Nations record label.
Everything, really. Get the small multi-CD set of Stan Getz' Roost label recordings. Get his earliest recordings for Clef/Verve label.
Picked this up for $1 at a thrift store yesterday, not sure what to expect. Popped it in this morning on the way to work and loved it. Roger Kellaway - Lenny By Julian Barry (Original Stage Score)
