Time to sit down with a drink and enjoy some music for the night. Being that it’s Saturday I’m up for something upbeat and groovy to set things off right. This should do.... Prestige PRST 7798 1970 LP
Hutchings is set to release the next The Comet is Coming record in March, he’s flying to Johannesburg to record the follow-up to his collaborative project Shabaka and the Ancestors this month, as well as heading back to the studio in the spring with Sons of Kemet for their next album. Follow-up to "Wisdom of Elders" ... Wow, can't wait for it. Great news!
If only there were a complete box set of ALL of Eddie Lockjaw Davis including all of his recordings for Prestige and other associated labels
I like your avatar of Buddy Bolden. Buddy Bolden was born the same month that Thomas Edison was working on his patent for the first phonograph in 1877!
Following up this by staying on the Prestige train. I gravitated toward Melvin and Idris on Rusty’s LP - I continued the theme and Boogaloo Joe and Bernard kill it on this one. Not to mention Houston Person has equivalent soul and energy to Rusty Bryant in my mind....
Got it on one of my CD expeditions to Goodwill Outlet Stores. Listened to it for the third time through in the last two days. First time I've ever sat down and listened to Sonny Rollins before. I'm diggin it. You Don't Know What Love Is, Sonny has such a great tone. Just pure beauty.
Charlie Haden & Brad Mehldau: "Long ago and far away" Im not quiet sure what I schould think about this record.
By coincidence on Tuesday I posted Lou Donaldson’s Hot Dog album, a recent purchase that has great contributions from Melvin and Idris, if you havn’t laready listened to that.
Another couple is coming over for coffee later this morning and they’re bringing Airto’s new album with them. Excited. (Plus I’ll admit it, excited to show of some of my acquisitions since they were last here)
I have heard it and it’s great! It’s on my want list and I look for a solid copy every time I’m at the record store. Thanks!
How much snow did you get Lon? Looks like about 5" on my deck and has changed to sleet/freezing rain for the rest of the day. Good to stay in, drink some fresh ground Kona coffee, and play some good tunes before football starts. Was listening to Miles Davis Jazz Track LP and now have a various artist comp called Blue Note Blend on cd.
I live in the hills of Geauga County and get the "Lake Effect" snow from Lake Eerie. We got about 7" in the last 36 hours. . . with more to come, though it did stop about 4 hours ago and we have sunshine now. (But cold). I live in a wooded neighborhood with a large state wildlife preserve starting in front of my house and extending a good ways. Blanketed in snow these bare trees and the forest floor are beautiful, a true winter wonderland.

Revisiting this one. I quite like it. Dial&Oatts, Rich DaRosa, the WDR Big Band "Rediscovered Ellington: New Takes on Duke's Rare & Unreleased Music." Has that WDR Big Band sound that I'm not entirely fond of, but it features some interesting arrangements and great playing.
Narrated by Denzel Washington, full of musician testimony and, of course, John Coltrane's playing, this PBS Independent Lens film isn't a bad intro to Trane. It's on Netflix. Free streamer.
