Joe Henderson – Joe Henderson In Japan (1973 US release) original '73 Milestone MSP-9047 (promo labels, VAN GELDER stampers) Recorded live at the Junk Club, Tokyo, August 4, 1971 A recent Discogs purchase, advertised as "VG+" but visually the LP was VG- . However, after two rounds of cleaning I got it visually up to a VG, and it plays a solid VG+.
It variates, the most it got its the formation with Mobley, Blakey, Kenny Dorian and Doug atkins. But have songs with Junior cook, Blue mitchell, Gene taylor and Louis Hayes. Have one song with Don byrd and another one with Percy heath.
The liner notes of this one below read as follows: "The least known and most easily forgotten by today's listeners are Boyd Raeburn and Georgie Auld" Some Boyd Raeburn was posted recently so here is one with Georgie Auld. The Auld aggregation has been cited as one of the more notable transition groups of the mid-1940s. In these examples on this LP we find - Trumpets: Dizzie Gillespüie, Al Kilian, Billy <butterfield Al Porcino, - Trombones:Trummy Young, Al Esposito, - Saxophones: Al Cohn, Manny Albam (bs), Al Young, Serge Chaloff, Georgie Auld - Piano: Erroll Garner, Tony Aless, Joe Albany, - Guitar: Turk Van Lage, Barry Galbaith, - Bass: Chubby Jackson, - Drums: Shadow Wilson, Stan Levey, Irv Kluger
Chick Corea - My Spanish Heart (Polydor P2-25657) I revisited that album before going to bed last evening. I love the music, the playing is fantastic...but that 70`s sound with all the synthesizers is killing some of the fun for me.
Well thanks for the Info. But it is difficult to find out from which recordinmgs the groups might be? Are there any Titles of LP's listed in the lin er notes?
Did some research for you. Took just a few minutes to find this: Horace Silver - The Best Of Horace Silver and this: The Best of Horace Silver, Vol. 1 - Horace Silver | Songs, Reviews, Credits | AllMusic From this I deduce: 1 seems to be from "Horace Silver Trio" 2-4 seem to be from "Horace Silver and the Jazz Messengers" 5,6 seem to be from "Six Pieces of Silver" 7,8 seem to be from "The Stylings of Horace Silver" 9 seems to be from "Finger Poppin'" 10,11,12 seem to be from "Blowin' the Blues Away"
They are from the albums Horace silver trio vol 1 e 2; Six pieces of silver, Blowing the blues away, finger poppin, the strings of silver.
Ahh yes thanks. Missed "Strings Of Silver". Probably on my new Silver box (10 LP's on CD. Have to check that. You can't have enough "Silver" ;-]]
You know, i dont know much about him yet, but im discovering his work and its amazing! One of creators of hard bop and inspirarion for guys like Hancock , Vince guaraldi and Sérgio Mendes.
Sounds a bit like this one with e-b, synthesizer, e-piano, organ, marimbas, chimes. Miles away from his cool style. Not my cup of tea. "There come A Time" french RCA APL 1057 . Series: RCA Masters
Yesterday DHL dropped off a box I have been waiting for, over 20 of this month's releases from Blue Note Japan of their 80th Anniversary cd reissues. I really like this series, I think they sound good and with a few tweaks to the system they really shine. Yesterday and today so far I've listened to: Grachan Moncur III "Evolution" Lou Donaldson "Sunny Side UP" Stanley Turrentine "Live at Minton's Vol. 1" Cliff Jordan "Cliff Craft" "John Jenkins / Kenny Burrell" I'm going to have a lot of the earlier US reissues to sell. Which will help pay for these!
