My 2nd batch came yesterday as well. The only one on your list we share is the John Jenkins/Burrell CD but I haven't listened yet - still making my way through the first shipment!

  2. Yes thanks for a fine Info.
Have all the albums on vinyl +3 are also on that box I posted some time ago remastered for CD.
My pleasure is always to hold the cover in hand when playing a record. On some I have sweet reminicenses. We collectors are all "sick" in one way or other but in the positive direction. Could also use "addicted" but that has a negative touch.
Thanks for taking the time. Appreciated.

You're welcome. I'm not really as into album art. I prefer to read or surf or play along on guitar or bass or close my eyes when listening to music. This music would still blow me away if it came in plain brown wrappers! A different type of sickness.

There Comes A Time is really awesome. I own it as released by RCA Bluebird (ND85783). To me it's an album more structured than the one only dedicated to Jimi Hendrix. But that album has a strong impact about Hendrix music on Jazz scene. The connection between Hendrix and jazz was something episodic. The orchestral arrangements made by Evans gave a new role to Jimi Hendrix, something more than a great guitar hero, but also a composer whose themes have been revised by many jazz musicians until the actual days. Evans was the first one.

Paolo Vinaccia feat. Terje Rypdal & Ståle Storløkken - "Very Much Alive" (rec. 2000-05)

I just cannot stop listening to this great live chronicle of the great Terje Rypdal trio with Paolo Vinaccia on drums (who sadly passed away a few days ago) and Ståle Storløkken on keyboards. First four discs are dedicated to four different gigs: Berlin '00, Sarajevo '01, Fredrikstad '02 and Sundalsøra '02, with set-lists culled mostly from the guitarist's entire career, starting with his ECM debut and featuring abundantly the material from his Chasers power trio from the 80s. Superb "cool" fusion stuff.

The fifth disc/gig, Arendal '05, is different, as it adds Palle Mikkelborg on trumpet and remains firmly in an introspective cinematic jazz territory (with some huge climaxes). Freaking beautiful.

And then there's sixth bonus disc with half an hour long mysterious Budapest trio improv (close to Arendal set in style), capped by long excepts from 2004 Amsterdam performance by a quartet made of Vinaccia, Bugge Wesseltoft, Jonas Lønnå and Marius Reksjø, with some atmospheric nu-jazz noodling.

What a terrific boxset and much deserved homage to the Italian (Norway-based) drummer. RIP Paolo.

I googled "Blue Note Japan 80th Anniversary cd reissues" but didn't locate exactly where these are sold. Could you direct me to the right place? Thanks. :tiphat:

He is an elder now. I'll never forget the times that Abdullah spent staring into my eyes for over an hour in total silence. It was even more powerful than his music

Solo horn has always been a difficult category for me, but I am really digging Bill Dixon's solo trumpet works. The man made some unreal sounds with that trumpet.
