Amazing record! All Simulacrum cds are really something. I can't just listen to only one of them... Inferno is my second favourite one, close to The painted bird.
It really is. I own The Painted Bird but I have yet to listen to it. There’s so much Zorn in my collection that I haven’t even heard yet. See you on the Zorn thread.
When you come from a small country you have this pride whenever you see it mentioned. So, although I'm not a "fado" fan - at all - I'm happy to see you enjoying that Portuguese fado singer. So thank you Lonson for "playing Portugal".
WP this early this morning w a mug a tea at a cottage .. It was perfect for the time and place. The songs stayed in my head today so listening again now...

Agreed. It does not sound a lot like his later efforts. Jaco also gave the album a different, perhaps more soulful feel. What an amazing debut. I like the story about how Gary Burton 'discovered' him.
I've liked almost everything he has done except, as you've said, the really out ones. I had the original record of Song X but sold it because I could not listen to it. But I later got the expanded cd and it seemed more interesting. Still, I've not really listened to it for a long time. I've been playing his recordings with Brad Mehldau (another of my favorite musicians) and they are quite special.
I need to listen to those Metheny/Mehldau albums again as it’s been quite some time since I’ve heard them. I, too, own the expanded edition of Song X and I still scratch my head when I revisit it.
I've just listened to Beyond the Missouri Sky again after many years. It was a favorite for a while but these days I find it just a bit too saccharine sweet for me. I like all these guys - Metheny, Frisell, Zorn. Zorn especially is so prolific that it's hard to navigate his output.
Speaking of Haden, there has been quite a no. of posthumous releases especially of his duo recordings. Those with Keith Jarrett and with Mehldau are nothing short of wonderful.
I think once you’ve gotten a handle on Zorn’s output, it’s quite easy to separate the wheat from the chaff. Even if I don’t like a Zorn album, I gain something from it and I’m all the better for it. He constantly challenges me and keeps me on my musical toes. I can’t say that for a lot of musicians. But all of this would be nothing if I didn’t enjoy his music and there’s a lot of albums he’s made that I come back to time and time again.

Yes I did post it recently (August 07) and you liked it. See the Infos on the backside scan of my vinyl.
When you posted it I didn't even realize I had it. My collection is a complete mess...but that makes it fun!
Well "the mess" is fun for one and isnt for another collector ;-]] You could start a private database [Access] and type in every day 25 Items (as I did many years ago) without interruption that is important.. Today I can identify every Item by Cat# or label or alphabetic order or CD or vinyl or mono or stereo. I have started also with "Paint Shop Pro" to scan the covers for posting and have them saved in Excel in alphabetic order. Good luck
Sound, Sun, Pleasure, Jazz&conv, small things in life that brings me happiness. A very soft and beautiful Sun Ra album.
