Currently listening to Horace Silver - Song for My Father. I know the title track really well but never really listened to the whole album. I've been denying myself all these years!
A cool morning on the deck with "Funky Blues" on the CD player. From the complete Norman Granz Jam Sessions. Players include Dizzy, Roy Eldridge, herb Ellis and Oscar Peterson. It goes down easy. PS. Can someone provide details on how to post pictures from my IPad photos folder? Can't seem to find an "Attach" button in the options provided in the reply window. Thanks
I haven't seen another album under the leadership of this extraordinary artist as the following: RCA Masters PM 42114 "Mr. Rhythm" / Freddie Green and his Orchestra Recorded in December 1955 at Webster Hall, NY City in several sessions from 10 a.m. to the next day until 9:00 p.m featuring: Joe Newman (tp) / Henry Coker (tb) / Al Cohn (ts & cl) / Nat Pierce (p) / Freddie Green (g) / Milt Hinton (b) / Jo Joners (dr) alternating with Osie Johnson (dr)
I was in the front row of a Count Basie concert in 1980, with my camera and no flash. I took a picture of Freddie Green in between numbers. An usher came running from the back of the theater, and stood in front of me. His face was blood red as he attempted to scream in a whisper. He was almost foaming at the mouth. Count Basie, who was standing at the microphone right next to this raging usher (with his crutches), said into the mic, "Aww, what's the matter? Can't he take a picture of Freddie? No one ever takes a picture of Freddie!" The audience applauded as Basie smiled and the usher slinked away. Basie counted a beat and the band took off. Freddie was smiling, and I snapped another picture.
Streaming this morning with coffee. It's good! Nice arrangements on those Dan tunes. Definitely has that laid back funk that reminds me of a CTI album. 'Been listening to Tokyo Live (1992) by Tony Williams a lot. Incredible how good this quintet was & how amazing Tony's compositions are, some of them extended considerably from the studio versions. I have an inner debate each night about whether to listen to disc 1 or 2 when my missus goes to bed.
You could take a Teo Macero "Go ahead John" approach and play both at the same time. Now playing, a soul take on some classics, Soul Village - Walter Bishop Jr
This is such a lovely album from Danish jazz guitarist Jakob Bro. All of his ECM albums are definitely worth checking out. He reminds me in some ways of Bill Frisell. It’s as if Bill Frisell was raised in a Scandinavian country and absorbed Europe’s jazz history.
I've been listening to the Complete Herbie Nichols (Mosaic set) from my county library system. Great stuff! Didn't have any in my collection. Something I'm sure to remedy on my next trip to Japan. Guys, don't neglect the public system. You pay for it with your taxes and you may find some great stuff there. You might have inter-county too. All searchable on-line.
Hopefully someone will correct me if i'm wrong, but i don't think you can upload photos directly to the forum. They would have to be uploaded to a photo sharing site like Imgur first, then you post the link to the uploaded photo here and the photo will show up. For cover art, i usually just copy the cover picture link from the album's listing on Amazon. Hope that helps! Cheers.
