John Coltrane- Coltrane Jazz (Rhino re- issue showed up in the mail today. Got it on sale from Acoustic Sounds. I'll be giving it a spin on Thursday since im off work that day.
Another hot day ahead here Yesterday, I got a morning bike ride in before mowing the lawn and then cooling off in the pool. Today might be just swimming and some reading after a morning workout on the rower. Its cool now and the neighborhood traffic noise is still on the quiet side Not so for the music. Can't play this one softly.... I was disappointed that the Brubeck box set on Columbia did not include many albums (none of the many live albums or albums with guests). If they were planning on further box sets, they should finish the job.
NHOP shows us his virtuosity on this Pablo Records German import, "The Eternal Traveller". All eleven titles feature his acoustic bass either playing the melody or giving support to pianist Ole Kock Hansen, and Lennart Oruvstedt on drums. IMO, Niels - Henning was one of the greatest jazz players ever. What a combo he would have made with pianist Bill Evans. Talk about interplay in spades. They would have been the greatest. A nice Wednesday start.
John Coltrane - Crescent (Impulse! UCCI-40012) If I`m still not sure about the new remaster of A Love Supreme, there`s no hesitation with Crescent. This is the best sounding version I heard. It just makes it even more pleasurable to sit and listen to this amazing album, Coltrane and his Quartet at their absolute best. I`ll take some time this evening to do a comparison of different versions of ALS. I listened to the newest remaster again last evening and I`m still not convince about Trane`s tone specially. What a great album though.

A masterpiece. One of my favorite BN albums. It's a pity that Pete La Roca (Sims) has recorded so little stuff as leader. Joe Henderson on top form. Steve Kuhn, a great advanced pianist. Swallow, a giant of the bass.
Kenny Drew Trio - Kenny Drew Trio (Riverside VICJ-60213) Recorded in late September 1956 with Philly Joe Jones and Paul Chambers. XRCD mastered by Alan Yoshida.
A FB friend was asking what our favourite songs were at 15, 20, and 35. I was 35 in 1994 and got this when it came out. Not jazz but does have Wayne Shorter and versions of Weather Report's "Cucumber Slumber" and Coltrane's "Naima." Anyway I love it.
Np Presenting Julian Cannonball Adderley (Savoy) mono Japanese cd 1991 When I was a young jazzbo I had plenty of time for Cannonball and judging by my large collection of titles I haven't rid myself of many if any titles.
