I love Buddy Collette. The guy could play multiple instruments with a great tone and sense of melody.

This taken from the Fresh Sound`s Buddy Collette - The Complete 1961 Milano Sessions. First time available on CD.

There are a couple tracks with Dex on the compilation as well as a couple of interesting previously unreleased tracks with John Surman and others. I also have her mid 70s album with Steve Kuhn.

Bill Evans/ The Sesjun Radio Sessions (Disc 1)

Bill with his trios performing for an audience on the radio in The Netherlands, December 1973 and February 1975 (Disc 2 features a 1979 session with Toots Thielemans joining for the back end).

Also enjoying this video of the trio in 1975 at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark, from the Live in '64-75 Jazz Icons DVD. It's amusing to see how Eliot Zigmund sometimes sits with his head tilted back, mouth open, in contrast to Bill hunched over the piano. They look like Peanuts characters.

Rita Reys "Rita A Go Go" Philips

I ordered one of these "Five Original Albums" or Reys because it had her Jobim album which I wanted to hear, and there were four others. This one is interesting. I am used to hearing English spoken with this Dutch accent I guess from my years in Swaziland; my wife says she sings "weird" but it doesn't seem weird to me. Very vivid sound in this live recording! The songs are very much "of a time and place."

Looks interesting. I was hoping I could hear it on Tidal or Qobuz but no luck. A quick look on Discogs and eBay and this might be a hard CD or download to find.

Fresh Sound offers a good sounding compilation of John Wright Trio and Quartet including this album. Unfortunately, the OJC Prestige CD is not easy to find at a fair price. I highly recommend the compilation.

So it's safe to assume all these Candid reissues from December are in mono? If so, that means I'll have to order some more.

How do the Cecil Taylor and Charles Mingus CDs compare to the Mosaic box sets from yore?

Have not done yet the comparison for Taylor but the Mingus` sound at least as good as the Mosaic to my hears.

I say on Discogs yesterday that those Candid are already selling for much higher than through CDJapan even though they`re still available.

Have you heard that Sun Ra album that I think was released in the past few years, CD only(?), that was an album of him playing American-songbook standards? I heard a cut on the radio a year or two ago and was trying to find the name of it, but he's got so much stuff released posthumously that it was like trying to find a needle in a cacophonous hay stack.

Going to have to put on Nubians of Plutonia later tonight.

UPDATE: Duh, found it: Sun Ra Plays Gershwin:
