Apologies , this was all a dry joke. Unfortunately , Stu02’s very few limited strengths do NOT include an ability to play bass.

    'The gloved one?'

Can't say as I've ever seen a glove like that before; looks like it would be easy on the fingertips...

Been away for a week or three. We have been very busy. Our big garden is all done except for the peppers. We canned a lot of salsa and tomatoes. And we recently found a nice, real log-cabin in the woods north of the city that we are going to use for a getaway/vacation-on-a whim place. There's a small lake, a nearby bike trail and a lot of quiet space that I will enjoy.

Today I have to finish draining and taking down our 25 year old above ground pool. I am thinking the pool will be even more under -used than it already is when we start using the cabin (closing date is early November).

Listening to something with a little energy to start the day....

It is one of those limited editions, where the artist (@Stu02) has all of the copies still in his garage.

When I met Phil and spent about 10 hours together (until 3AM) it was just weeks after that album was released.

At the end of the night, I asked him what was next. He said he was "going to leave the scene."

I went home, didn't sleep at all, listened to this record and his prior record (Rehearsals for Retirement) and worried that he would be a suicide.

He did leave the scene. There were no more albums, and his only performances after that were at benefits (there were no more commercially booked concerts). His suicide came almost exactly 6 years later.

He did sing "When I Was a Boy in Ohio" to me as we were trading stories.

I have to admit that I had no idea he'd done a tribute album to Jimi over 20 years ago as well...

There are a few variants on the theme; here's one from prior to Willie Love's take on the idea.

If you're into vinyl, the Mosaic box set of this release is very well done.

Well, that's another one that I'd sure like to hear; problem is, there are generally at least a half-dozen or so such items every day just here...

Love this album, and I recently developped a new appreciation for it since I was hipped to the work of pianist Eri Yamamoto in this thread (I'm sorry, I forget the user's name, but thanks a lot, I love her work.) Beautiful sounding piano trio.

I saw LOTS of shows at this place, c. 1973-'76 or so; mostly jazz and blues, but Ochs and Tim Hardin both did solo gigs there.

As it turns out, I could head out the door and walk there in under 5 minutes this very morning...

FREE SPIRITS | MARY LOU WILLIAMS TRIO

    12 track album - tracks 2, 7, 10, 11 & 12 are not on the LP edition.

A top notch Mary Lou studio album.

NP: Thelonious Monk - Piano Solo [The Intense Media 600356] CD

From 1954 with Thelonious Monk: piano.

Sound quality is lousy on this. Not sure if that's because my copy comes from a budget-box 10-CD omnibus collection, but I don't think so because I see in reviews that other CD reissues are also from needle-drops. The music is solid, at least.
