I've been playing a lot of Curtis Mayfield these past days. Not jazz, but I see it has a big acceptance here. Wonder why.

Love everything about Curtis Mayfield, the '60s stuff, the '70s stuff, the incredible fortitude and grace he always showed, especially after his crippling accident in making New World Order.

If you're every interested in a jazz take on Mayfield, William Parker's I Plan to Stay a Believer: The Inside Songs of Curtis Mayfield is pretty darn good!

Very belated reply I know. I am curious if you were listening to the original vinyl or a CD or streaming of Johnny Hammond's Talk That Talk. The original vinyl pressing has exceptional immediacy of Johnny's Hammond organ. I wonder if it would sound too hot on some systems. My system has very flat treble so sibilance and shrillness have to be extreme to register on my system. But it may be the clearest sounding of his earlier albums. His playing sounds very lively to me with all the details of his playing quite audible.

I broadcast a three hour radio special on Curtis Mayfield before his accident.

He learned about it afterward, and got my phone number from "Information" (remember that great service?) and called me up to thank me.

I hope that most jazz fans are completely open to soul musicians. The music is connected.

This was a streaming listen. I'm glad to hear original vinyl brings out that organ better!

Very good new album by the tenorist recorded with Kenny Barron on piano, Joe Martin on bass and Jonathan Blake on drums. All analog recording mastered by Bernie Grundman, it sounds terrific. Available through Bandcamp. Straight ahead jazz at its best.

Wow....all I can say. I agree with @Lonson on this one, best version I heard of this title. Great mastering job by Ryan K Smith.

Anyone have any info on the sound sources for the compilation of live material by Ornette Coleman called "Remembrance of Things Past (Live 1965-1995)" on Spotify? I am worried that it will get taken down for whatever reason, and then I won't know where to turn in order to listen to the music it includes.

Huh, never saw that. Looks like a compendium likely from European radio broadcasts, but one of the seems to be a 1994 Sound Museum set with Geri Allen -- I don't think they played that many dates. Really looking forward to hearing it.
