I really like what Jay and company brought to the table. Very catchy melodies and songs incorporating childish themes to adult situations. It does begin to sound similar after a few tracks but there is no denying the records are well crafted and fun!!
One of my favorite Stevie Wonder tunes from the 60s. Can't believe they wasted it on a b-side. He sang with such passion and he was still barely 20. Michael had it, too. Stevie Wonder - I Don't Know Why I Love You
Swamp Dogg "The World Beyond" B-side of "Total Destruction To Your Mind" Vogue label [France] INT. 80268 [ 1971 ]
Definitely feeling this tonight - Just Got Paid Johnny Kemp (1988) Bittersweet memories - just found out Kemp was found dead on the beach in Jamaica back in 2015. I remember seeing him on the subway in Brooklyn. R.I.P. At least he left us with an r&b working man's anthem!
This song really cuts deep. I think this song was autobiographical, and you can feel the anguish Stevie must have gone through.
This is one of my favorites from the UK power duo. It was their only No. 1 topper in England (surprising) during their great run of hits in the 80s. There Must Be An Angel The Eurythmics
Royalettes - "It's Gonna Take A Miracle" 1965 MGM Records Original version of this classic soul standard later made famous by Deniece Williams two decades later. Love the Royalettes version.
Jonathan Butler Jonathan Butler (1987) The second album from South African singer/guitarist, Butler, went over big in the American r&b community. The pop/lite jazz sensibility was akin to some of George Benson's more mainstream stuff but Butler's style had a freshness and vibrancy that was, if not deep, contagious. It's still one of my favorite albums. Lies from Jonathan Butler
Patti Labelle - Stir It Up From 1985 on the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack. Can't believe this wasn't a hit. Love the beat, the energy, of course the classic 80s saxophone.
Never made it to the mainstream FM stations, and not many know of it outside of a scene in Beverly Hills Cop with Axel driving in blue Chevy Nova. Great song.
I remember driving down the highway with it blasting in my girlfriend's Nova. She liked this one and loved If Only You Knew by Patti. the karaoke version
