Get the Speakers Corner "Best of" record.

Sounds awesome. Beats a US original.

Thanks for your input on the Speakers Corner. That appears to be a tough record to find though!

Little Walter, one of my all-time favorites. The fact that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inducted him as a "sideman" was an unbelievable insult. The man recorded over 100 songs for Chess as bandleader. All of them great. The constant focus on the fact that he revolutionized harmonica playing lets people forget that his achievements as a singer, songwriter and arranger are just as great. He also was a good guitar player. The other Chicago blues greats like Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf pretty much continued to play the same music they had learned in the south, only on electric instruments. Little Walter on the other hand created something new, based on the blues, but heavier and faster. He pretty much invented modern "rock music" as it took over in the late sixties, just after Walter's passing (Hendrix, Doors, Rolling Stones 1969 tour, Stooges, etc). I consider him the most "modern" of the Chicago blues players, criminally overlooked today, so it was great that the Rolling Stones named their new album "Blue And Lonesome" after one of his songs and recorded four of his songs for the album.

I would pass on the Black Knight LP, which must be an "out of copyright" release with the music taken from regular CDs.

In my opinion these are the essential Little Walter LPs:

P.S.: Hate To See You Go (1969) Chess LP-1535 is the LP that Keith Richards is listening to at the start of the "Under The Influence" documentary.

My Echo My Shadow And Me -- you seem like the man for this question:

    What do you think of:

“THE ESSENTIAL LITTLE WALTER” 2-CD set?

    MCA 1993

    It's listed as being AAD

Tracks 1-17 “Transferred” by Paul Elmore and Steven Lasker.

The remaining were “Re-mastered” by Erick Labson.

Fantastic Track list, but I generally hate Erick Labson's work (though sometimes he masters things essentially flat -- so there is hope this collection could sound good).

A question, Hate To See You Go (1969) Chess LP-1535 -- the 1977 reissue is fake stereo, right?
Only the original 1969 LP was mono if I understand this right?

I think Confessin the Blues is also fake stereo, right?

I have the 2012 US Universal LP of Confessin' The Blues Little Walter - Confessin' The Blues Even though it says Stereo on the cover, the LP has the original mono mix and sounds great.

For Hate To See You Go I have the 1977 US LP Little Walter - Hate To See You Go Again, even though it says Stereo on the cover, the LP has the original mono mix and sounds fantastic.

Thanks for this. I've just gone and picked up "hate to see you go", the 1977 reissue on discogs.
I'm still on the fence for "Confessin the blues". I may go for an original 1977 pressing and try my luck.
Does anyone out there have one?

While I have some Little Walter MCA Best Ofs - I just found the 4CD 1992 Charly Little Walter - The Chess Years 1952-1963 today at Half Price Books for $3.00........!!!!!

This fills so many gaps I have with respect to this master I had to pick it up :righton:

Ok - I know going in Charly’s quality is dodgy - so give it to me straight - what’s the view on this set?

It's a fantastic box and since it was withdrawn shortly after release it's very rare. It usually goes for well over a hundred dollars on ebay or discogs. A great find!

    Thank You!

I can’t believe this was sitting under the the main bins in between Kenny G and Lit:)

I think the staff just checked that the label didn’t say “Capitol”, “Epic”, “Columbia”, etc. and took the path of least resistance with it - I am amazed they didn’t do a cursory EBay inquiry on it to properly price it!
