Any love for Local Hero on here? One of my favourite films and now coming out on Blu Ray in September including the following:
    • 2k digital restoration - made from original 35mm elements
    • Brand new audio commentary with director Bill Forsyth and film critic Mark Kermode
    • Getting In On The Action (1982) - 29 min behind-the-scenes documentary (shot on location)
    • The Music Of Local Hero (2019) – Brand new interview with composer Mark Knopfler
    • Interview with Bill Forsyth (24 mins)
    Local Hero Blu-ray

A perfect little film for me and obviously a great soundtrack.

Wow, I might actually finally purchase a Blu-ray player for this .

One of my all-time favorites, so much so that back in 1984 while traveling in the UK I found the beach Macintyre visited in the film. It’s on the Scottish mainland across from the southern end of the Isle of Skye. The town was elsewhere, never sought it out.

Love 'Local Hero', and am glad that Bill Forsyth has made the collection.

Now I'm really hoping for Forsyth's weirdly quirky teen comedy GREGORY'S GIRL to be given the CC treatment.

There is a soft spot in my heart for this film. Lancaster was brilliant very late in his career.

My favourite line is when they are talking to Gideon whilst he's painting letters on the side of his boat.

They ask him if there are two l's in 'dollar'?

He says 'Yes, and are there two g's in 'bugger off'?.

Always brings a smile to my face, like the rest of the film.

The helicopter arrival is one of my favorite scenes in all movies.

This is my very most favoritest movie ever and I am delighted to see Criterion picked it up.

'Its an electric briefcase. I need to charge it.'
'I'd be a good Gordon, Gordon.'
'We have an injured rabbit, also.'

Hoping against hope they might also revive the wonderful Comfort and Joy.

I always assumed that Northern Exposure basically took Local Hero and turned it into a (great) TV show. I do recall one episode of Northern Exposure that had the same dead rabbit storyline.

  20. Finally buy a blu-Ray player? Why bother if you’re only going to have one film to play?

I wasn't being all that serious. I decided long ago I wasn't going to start re-buying films I own in other formats. I don't have a huge TV so DVD remains fine for my occasional optical disc needs. I do have Local Hero on Laserdisc though, I've owned it since the 1990's.

  22. It is indeed a great film that is worthy of Blu-ray and, indeed, 4K reissues.

Yes great movie, liked it a lot.
Another one I saw about the same time that I also enjoyed, and also starred Burt was "Rocket Gibraltar "
Burt seemed to be on a good run there towards the end, I thought.

His fantastic role in Atlantic City opened a lot of doors for him. He did a neat buddy film with Kirk, and Local Hero was another great part.
I saw him do a TV movie that was kind of like Sweet Smell and he did another scuz bag role that was great.
I enjoyed Local Hero, but didn't love it.
