I'm in. I followed him this far. Gotta be there for the swan song.
Using that song is a good move.

This trailer has me so excited and optimistic for a more grounded, character-based X-movie.

I know the storyline is based on Old Man Logan (this is the series you're thinking of, @musicalbeds) to some degree, so I'm curious as to how much the writers have borrowed, because the source material leaves a lot of potential for a strong drama.

    Old Man Logan
takes place in a future dystopia where virtually all of Marvel's heroes have disappeared or been wiped out. I loved Logan's inner conflict in that series and the focus on his development as a character, coming to terms with his role in the fate of his teammates and sticking to his vow to never use his claws again until he was eventually and absolutely pushed to the brink. The payoff was so satisfying. The trailer shows Logan using his claws, so hopefully it gets taken in this direction rather than him just whipping them out, business as usual an hour in without the moment being earned. This movie has the opportunity to really explore characterization and relationship-building, so I hope the writers took full advantage of that. Either way, I'm excited to see it.

This looks pretty good, but the X-Men movie universe timeline is an unsalvageable mess at this point. I say let the series lie dormant for at least a decade after this one before rebooting in a coherent form.

yes, interesting. But this is a more mature person writing. Teenage boys into their 20's will watch action til the cows come home. If they want the series to thrive as the initial viewers age, then I agree with him. Or you juts retool it, like they do with Batman (and soon Spidey) and start over on a new group of teens.
Either way, I am really pulped for this, haven't been this excited about a superhero movie since I saw the re-tooled Joker in trailors.

This Brazilian film critic has watched the film and gave it 5 stars. It seems that this is an excellent story with great acting. The text is in Portuguese, but perhaps an online translator will help you out:

I enjoyed it. Very much not "fun". Kind of somber but not dark. Worth seeing if you like the character.
