Light In The Attic will most likely present the Lou Reed 1965 demos this year. They have the licence. And then of course there’s the 1971 studio demos that have appeared and are due for an RSD vinyl release.
there was a magazine article with LA about all of the releases planned in 2021/22, but they have been put on hold/held back by the pandemic. for example has been put back to an unknown date
lou reed words and music is coming out summer 22, and an exhibition of his stuff opens in new york library 6/6/22
I would love to see a full concert from the 1983 Bottom Line show that was taped for video release. I went to two of those shows and they are my favorite Lou live shows. I would also love to know what is available from the Berlin sessions. That album is crying for a boxed set.
i think it's i've not read the article yet but it's the same label and the article is on the 65 demos
i had a quick flick through and it is the 65 demos. the title coming from what lou would say before each song for copyright purposes. the tracklist i'm waiting for the man men of good fortune (no link to the berlin song) heroin too late buttercup song walk alone buzz buzz buzz pale blue eyes stockpile wrap your troubles in dreams i'm waiting for the man (2) there's also a synopsis of each song's style
Can’t like this post enough!! I was also at one of those nights and it remains not only my favorite Lou show, but one of my favorite shows by anyone. I loved that band!! A huge Quine fan and that was just tremendous Quine. That’s why also, along with Berlin (as you say), I keep hoping for a Blue Mask box (my fave Lou solo).
You are speaking my language. Obviously I am a big Quine fan as well to the extent where I bought one of his guitar pedals and a signed record from his record collection, it was a jazz record and every time Quine loaned a record he would sign his name on it. In addition to a Blue Mask box, I would love to see Legendary Hearts remixed so we can hear Quine’s guitar better. Quine complained about his guitar being buried for years on the mix of the album for years. Quine had such a unique guitar sound.
I also went to one of those shows, fantastic set, we had a small Quine guitar solo cheering section over at my table which seemed to anger Lou for some reason. For me the band was better at those shows than on the much lauded Live In Italy.
This is not (necessarily) the Light in the Attic release tracklist. It's a list of songs the Mojo journalist decided to describe in a little more detail within the article.
i think that's all the tracks on the demo. sorry if i was misleading using the word tracklist, tracks included would have been better
More info on the flexi here, from a forum member who received it. He also shares a photo of the letter that accompanied it. Announcement of the album is coming in June. Velvet Underground 2021 releases
Also in that letter: “Light in the Attic, in partnership with Laurie Anderson, will be releasing these recordings, as the inaugural release in our Lou Reed Archival Series.” As exciting as the release of the 1965 demos is (and I find it quite exciting), it looks like it’s just the beginning.
Oh, so it was you folks! No wonder Lou cut Quine’s parts from Legendary Hearts. ;-). Totally agree. (re: Live in Italy) I saw that band again a little later after seeing them at the Bottom Line, when they played the Beacon, and while they were still really good, the Bottom Line show for me was just on another level. (But it was also such a great room).
Absolutely. A remixed Legendary Hearts with restored or remixed Quine has also been one of my dream sets from a Lou archive release. (And very cool about that Quine gear and lp!).
