[Sckott's note - at time of thread, there was question to if he had passed. Until we hear otherwize, he is in bad shape, and we are all hoping he can recover. AFA we know, he's alive.... If you see mentions that Mr. V is passed, it was miscommunication from websites seen. Thanks, and now back to the thread.]

I was hoping that this wouldn't happen. Damn shame. May the man rest in peace.

They must have gotten that memorial page up quickly. I just checked cnn.com and the latest on Vandross is that he was recovering from his operation.

On closer inspection, the page doesn't say anything about him dying that I can see. I also haven't found anything anywhere else about his death.

Well "1951-2003" and reference to him in past tense does it for me....

Weird. I don't see that. I see a picture of Luther with the words "Luther Vandross Greatest Hits," as well as a discography and the following text:

    Welcome to the

    Luther Zone...

It'sw the place we've visited so many times - a place of emotion, comfort, inspiration, introspection and joy where we can feel the wonder of music and love come alive through one extraordinary voice. Each of these songs have been so closely tied to the times of our lives -- the happy times, and the not-so-happy ones. When we listen to Luther we are reminded that music will always be a companion to our lives. Luther knows exactly where music touches the deepest part of us. We can always trust him to take us there.

Wouldn't it be awful if they prepared an obit in advance and were stupid enough to put it online?

    There's nothing at MSNBC.com either.
But the Sony Music site sure makes it sound like Luther has passed on.
    Weird.
    I hope it's not so.

  12. I just clicked on the Sony link and it's not working. I get a blank page.

I also checked CNN.com and BBC's entertainment pages and the latest they have on Luther is from 2, 3 days ago, that he is not well, but was still alive.

    Weird, wacky stuff.

I just finished having dinner in front of the TV scanning the news. Not a word about this. And yes, Sony's obit page is blank now. Hmmm...

I searched Google News, and the latest story they have on Luther was 11 hours ago... in critical condition.

I just got this from the Velvet Rope. It was a false report:

    Press release from his manager:

In an effort to keep Luther Vandross' fans informed and clarify rumors that are circulating about his condition subsequent to his stroke thirteen days ago, I would like to release the following information. Luther Vandross remains in the intensive care unit at the Weill Cornell Medical College in New York. He has fended off pneumonia but did endure a tracheotomy to help remedy this situation. The tracheotomy was performed in a manner in which his vocal chords were not affected or damaged. Currently, the doctors report that neurologically he is minimally responsive and we're waiting for him to regain full consciousness. I am told that this may take some time.

On behalf of the family and friends of Luther Vandross, thank you for the tremendous outpouring of well wishes and prayers. Please keep them coming.

Carmen Romano, Business manager for Luther Vandross

Maybe the title of this thread should be changed until its confirmed. It might upset some members.

For pete's sake, I'm basically a hack at doing web sites, and even I know you don't put something like that up, even as a test, where people can see it prematurely. I understand them wanting to have it ready should the worst happen, but you'd think they'd have learned something from all those premature Bob Hope obituaries.

    Glad it's not true.

E! Online reports that Luther is now breating on his own, but has not yet regained consciousness. Good sign that he's on the mend, though.

Please change the name or delete the thread - it serves no purpose other than to display the horrendousness of Luther's record company posting an obit on his own website prematurely.
