The way they increase the intensity when it comes time for the end solos on that OMFTR version never fails to amaze me. What a band!
I never feel that way...ever. I must be crazy? ; ) like them then like them now no matter how many times I've heard them.
Good lads. Through the last couple of weeks I've played it pretty much every day. I've had Gimme Back My Bullets for decades now, and I haven't tired of it yet. There isn't a single song on the album I feel even a little indifferent about, I love every single one of them. The individual performances by every member throughout are impressive and ear-catching, the ensemble dynamics make themselves apparent in every song and the band plays with a natural ebb and flow as a unit that is both beautiful and astounding. Check out how they turn it up a notch on Trust for the pre-chorus, announcing it with those insistent 16th notes and keeping it hot for Ronnie to warn you that there are many ladies here among us... (insert RIFF!). Oh yeah. Such great songs, every single one of them. Rocking out here, mellowing out there, and hooks till next week. I'm in love with this album. The fact that it's a lovely recording doesn't hurt it either. Gotta love Leon's full-bodied sound and agile, sinuous lines, Rossington's sweet tone is similarly addictive, Collins' Strat simply killer, and Artimus' flair excites and holds my attention throughout. Gimme Back My Bullets is such a glorious display of honest craft, delivered with purpose and class. They don't make them like this anymore, do they? What a band!
Did Collins play a Strat? I would not be surprised if he did but I always associated him with Gibson Explorers or Firebirds. Partially because of him I wanted to get an Explorer but then I tried one out and didn't like the way it hung down weird with the straplock on the back instead of on the top side like my Strat or a Les Paul. Some photos of Allen in action: An Explorer.. A Firebird: Ah, here's a Strat!
Allen played the Strat on Sweet Home Alabama live in 1976 such as Knebworth, as well as Tuesdays Gone, Every Mothers Son and Same Old Blues. Possibly others though none immediately jump to mind. i've never seen video footage but I'm thinking he may have played it on Crossroads too
This is an open discussion so.......there is a reason why a lot of fans including myself who don't think that Bullets is that hot of an album compared to the others. It has one of my favorite LS songs on it though. I still listen to it at times. The Lynyrd Skynyrd Album by Album Thread
